Yesterday, year 2 enjoyed building their Gamelan xylophones. We used different joining techniques and learnt how to roll tubes from paper and cardboard. Parts of the build were tricky but the children have done so well!

Today, as part of our Music through Stem Week, Year 4 made their calypso themed musical instruments. We have designed and planned our own maracas and worked really hard bringing our designs to life! Thanks so much everyone for all the resources you have kindly sent in from home!
This week, Year 5 have been completing some sustained listening all about world music. Our world music genre was ‘South African Choral Music’. We listened to some gospel choirs singing and compared and contrasted their songs against British Pop Music.
Today for worship we have looked at disability and how not all disabilities can be seen. Our very own Mrs Mc came to our class with her daughter Grace, who has an ‘invisible’ disability. She talked to us about the barriers she faces and wowed us with her positivity and determination. We also had a visit from some children from Keelman’s Way School who talked to us about the things that support them and help with their learning.

Year 2 were so lucky this morning as we had a visit from the children from Keelman’s Way school. During worship this week we are look at disabilities and the children taught us all about their school, shared some of the symbols that help them find their way around as well as different ways they communicate. We also joined in with them to sing the song Elephants have Wrinkles using Makaton. We learnt so much from them and they really helped us understand what it is like going to school with a learning disability.
Yesterday Year 2 started their Music STEM week with the THINK stage. Our project is going to be to make our own xylophones that could be played along to Gamelan music from Indonesia. We had lots of fun investigating and researching existing xylophones to see what they could be made out of, the sound they make and how the sounds are created. Next we will be creating our plans and we can’t wait to get building.
Reception are enjoying their music STEM week so far this week! We have been up to lots so far busy testing drum sounds on a cajon drum, exploring sounds around our environment and gathering our resources! We have now completed our ‘think’ and ‘plan’ part of STEM and are moving onto our ‘make’ today…keep your eyes peeled this week for our finished Spin Drums!
Year 6 had a fabulous time at Shiremoor Adventure Playground. From zip wires, roller skates, bikes, tractors, basket ball, climbing frames to holding the small animals to making pizzas in the outdoor pizza oven. A fantastic time was had by all.
