On Monday 13th June Year 2 and Year 6 visited Al Azhar Mosque in South Shields. As part of our learning in RE we learnt about the five pillars of Islam and praying. Children had fantastic discussions with Daniel and Ismail from the Islamic Diversity. We then visited West Park for a packed lunch and a play in the park.
On Thursday 9th June Year 2 visited Little Haven in South Shields. We completed a senses activity to help us with our setting descriptions in English. We were impressed with the vocabulary children generated to describe what they could see, smell, touch and hear. We then had time to play in the sand with our friends.
Year 2 have had a busy and exciting morning, this week. We walked to Bede Burn and met our pen pals. We shared our learning about the UK and the Queen and completed different art, geography and history tasks. We had a fab morning!
Year 2 have had a fabulous and creative Jubilee Day! We started our morning making crowns and bunting with our pen pals and then we designed our own stamps and created our own rules if we were King or Queen for the day. We then enjoyed our outdoor picnic and amazing cupcakes. What a lovely end to a bust half term!
Year 2 collaborated with Year 1 today to learn and perform Rule Britannia. As part of their music learning they also listened to Jerusalem and commented on different musical features.
WOW! What an afternoon we have had in Year 2. We had a visit from Janine Marshall, Mr Richardson and Mrs Conway. As part of our food and nutrition week we made our own flapjacks. We planned what ingredients we wanted to use and demonstrated lots of fantastic baking skills. There was definitely a buzz in Ozzie Owls this afternoon. We cannot wait to taste and evaluate our flapjacks tomorrow.
Year 2 made a fantastic start to their Food and Nutrition Week. They started by tasting different flapjacks and dried fruit then deciding which flavours they liked the most. They started to design their own recipe for a flapjack. They are looking forward to making their flapjacks on Thursday.
Year 2 tested their boats to see if they would float or sink. We were very successful and we were able to use a compass to see which direction they travelled. We then used this to write our evaluation.
