In History, Year 4 have been looking at the impact of the Anglo Saxon invasions. We looked at the creation of the seven kingdoms, and then we looked at how many places still exist today with Anglo Saxon suffixes! We enjoyed using our geographical skills to locate these places on a map.
As part of our current Science topic, Year 4 visited the Life Centre to take part in their Disgusting Digestion workshop, and what an amazing time we had! We became real scientists for the day, conducting our own experiments to investigate what happens in our bodies when we eat our food, right down to the methane gas we produce at the end!
Year 4 took their RE learning outside this week. We visited the nature garden to look at nature’s ‘wow’ moments, thinking about what Christians might believe about why God created these, and what we can learn from this. We picked our favourite nature moments to photograph, and made voice recordings using our oracy skills to describe why we thought God would have created these.
Year 4 enjoyed playing a ‘nrich’ game today, linked to their learning on place value. We have been rounding to the nearest 10, 100 or 1000! We used 3 dice to create a 3 digit number, we then rounded this up or down
Year 4 loved art this afternoon, exploring water colour techniques. We looked at the properties of water colour and how to make it more translucent! Our work looks amazing
In Geography this week, Year 4 looked at the tropics. We looked at locating the tropic of Cancer and Capricorn on the map, thinking about their position against the equator. We also thought about which countries they ran through, and what the climates of these countries looked like.
This week in PE, Year 4 focused on our rolls and rolling skills linked to gymnastic techniques. Miss Marley was so impressed with some of our forward rolls! We found keeping our legs straight and the bean bag between between our ankles tricky!
Year 4 loved taking part in National Fitness Day this week! We ran, jogged and walked laps around our yard, with lots of us managing to complete a whole mile! Well done Year 4!
Year 4 took their maths outside last week, and looked at adding and taking away from a four digit number using their place value knowledge. We looked at how we could recognise what columns needed to change, and what to do when we needed to exchange columns.
As part of International Democracy Day, Year 4 have been looking at what a government is, how democracy works and what an election is. We elected party leaders who told us what they stood for, and then we cast our vote, electing our class Prime Minister for the day.
Our gorgeous Beau won the election by a landslide representing the Green Party!
