Wow, wow, wow! What a fantastic sports day Year One have had. The weather was glorious and we definitely had lots of fun. Everyone tried their best and showed great power and resilience whilst competing in their teams. We are so proud of you all and your fantastic attitudes. Well done Year One!

Year 1 – Rhetorical Questions! – 07.07.2025

Last week, Year 1 learnt all about rhetorical questions, to support them in their persuasive letter writing. Next week, children will be writing to our local MP, Kate Osborne, to persuade her to support the “Send my Friend to School” campaign, which they have been studying in their Agents of Change sessions.

Mrs B and Mrs Hope were amazed the children’s questions and understanding!

Year 1 -Sunshine Funtime – 30.06.2025

Year 1 had a gorgeous day on Friday for sunshine Funtime. The children explored natural materials to create nature art linked to Andy Goldsworthy. They then moved to the outdoors to enjoy treats and a story around the fire. After, the children created positivity pebbles and clay faces. Thank you to our parents/carers for joining us, we appreciate you a lot!

KS1 had a fantastic time during their Spanish party… they tried lots of Spanish food, listened to Spanish music and hit the piñata. We would like to say a big thank you to Mr Rundle for organising it all!

Year 1 – Music Fest! – 25.06.2025

On Friday year 1 joined in with our St Oz music fest. The children performed Paddington by mover and shaker Gary Barlow alongside Reception and year 2. They then performed fantastically Imagine by John Lennon linked to peace. What a gorgeous afternoon we all had in the glorious sunshine.

Today, Year 1 were making equal groups by sharing. Children built on prior knowledge of using arrays and used counters as practical support. Super maths work, Year 1!

Year 1 – World Humanist Day – 19.06.2025

Today, Year 1 looked into Humanism to mark World Humanist Day. Children discussed prior learning about the Creation story, a belief which is shared by Christians and Jews.

Children then listened to a little boy called Wilf and his dad discuss their humanist view of how they believe world was created, through the Big Bang.

Finally children discussed and recorded their own ideas and opinions about how they believe the world was made. Staff were amazed by the level of discussion going on in the classroom!

Year 1 had the most gorgeous day at Beamish yesterday in the sunshine!

We started our adventure by visiting the school. The children applied all their prior learning from their school days topic and could relate to so many artefacts and features. We then visited houses from the Victorian times. The children listened to a Beamish volunteer telling us all about the way of life. The gentleman commented on how attentively the children listened and how fantastic their questions were.

After lunch we explored the 1950’s town. We looked at the toy shop which linked to our prior learning of toys past and present and looked at how features were different to the Victorian times such as clothing and housing.

Year 1 were absolute superstars from the word go. Their behaviour was impeccable and they represented St Oswald’s outstandingly. We’re so proud of them all!
