This week, reception took part in an online zoom workshop listening to a story all about the animals in the sea, this was called ‘The Odd Fish’. There was lots of plastic pollution in the sea and this was harming the creatures! We learned all about why it is important to pick up our rubbish and make sure it goes in a bin. We also had some fun and learned how to draw some of the sea animals 
Year 2 have had a fabulous morning learning all about climate change and keeping our beaches clean. We were extremely lucky to take part in a Zoom call with the authors of The Odd Fish. We listened to the story, discussed what we should do with our rubbish after at the day the beach and then spent some time illustrating our own characters too. Great job Year 2!
Year 2 showed off their printing skills yesterday. They manipulated dough , then pressed interesting materials into it to create a printing block. The children then applied paint to the printing block, pressing it onto paper to create texture and patterns.
Y6 visited the Laing Art Gallery to see the Lindisfarne Gospels. We learned that this historic manuscript was created 1300 years ago and is a huge part of our local heritage. This was a fantastic experience and we’d encourage you all to take a visit while the Lindisfarne Gospels are back in the North East (until December).

During their day at the Laing Art Gallery, Y6 examined a variety of pieces of art closely, evaluating the use of different elements of art and also considering the messages that artists were trying to portray. One collection we visited focused on spirituality, while another was centred around the local art of Newcastle. We’ve taken lots of inspiration for our own pieces that we will be creating next week in line with our Maafa topic.

In Year 5, have been studying 80’s Synth-Pop music. We have looked at 3 different songs so far: Don’t You Want Me by The Human League, Don’t You (Forget About Me) by Simple Minds and Smalltown Boy by Bronski Beat. We have considered the context of the 80’s, thinking about what was happening in the world at the time, developed our knowledge of key vocabulary and discussed the meaning of the three songs. Some of the songs have even linked to our whole school focus this year on protected characteristics!
Ivy, Lydia & Lacey had the most amazing day last week celebrating Ivy’s aunty getting married in Cyprus. They’ve also been on a boat trip and swam in the sea. On Sunday, they celebrated Ivy’s birthday 🎉🎉
Y6 loved their heart workshop today! They handled and dissected lamb hearts in order to understand how the human heart functions. Well done, Y6!
This afternoon in year 1 we have continued our history unit of childhood. We brought in a special object that links to an important event in our lives. We took part in a circle time to discuss and listen to what our important events were, how long ago these took place and why they were important to us. We heard some amazing explanations this afternoon! Well done

Year 3 spent their forest school afternoon looking at what different types of animals eat. We researched different diets for different animals depending on the season, and then had a hunt around the nature garden to see if we could spot some of the foods they ate in autumn. We found fruit, bark, berries and even some creepy crawlies! We then completed a table for each of our animals and their seasonal diets, and what special features they had to help them find their food.
