Reception have had a great afternoon learning lots about nursery rhymes for our mini topic of ‘Stories and Rhymes’. We sang lots of familiar songs and then looked at a song some of us had not heard of, Sing a song of sixpence! We talked about the Queen eating bread and honey…and then we made our own bread and honey sandwiches 
to try! We had to use some super cutting and spreading skills 
Year 3 have had a busy afternoon measuring forces around the classroom. The children were measuring in Newtons the force needed to open a door, pull a drawer open and move the iPad trolley. They then made lots of comparisons and wrote statements about they discovered. Super work Y3

This afternoon year 1 have been continuing our computing learning. We gave examples of how we can find information using different digital devices. We then put this into practice by using our typing skills to google search given items. Well done superstars as this is tricky stuff 
Wow Reception have been up to so much in maths! We have been learning all about weight and capacity. 
We have been seeing which items are heavier and lighter and then this week we are investigating filling different containers!
Year 2 are absolutely loving their Science topic all about uses of materials. In their latest lesson, they explored different ways to shape materials. Lots of hands on, practical investigation took place and through bending, twisting, squashing and stretching materials, they were able to discover how changing the shape of a material can be both a good and a bad thing.
Year 6 have been putting their skills to the test and have created these amazing soap sculptures! Wow!
Our wonderful cook Nicola thought our old birthday cake was in need of replacing. No sooner were the words said and ta-da…..look what she created using polystyrene and real fondant. It looks good enough to eat!

I joined the gym a couple of weeks ago and it is so much fun. There is a family section at Jarrow Focus for ages 8-14 and it’s only £3.10 with a Get Active Card. My favourite piece of equipment so far is the treadmill.
I’ve been learning to play badminton too with Isla.

On Friday, Year 5 had a fantastic trip to The Word. We took part in lots of coding activities where we had to use our skills to tinker and debug any problems that arose. We also filmed a news clip all about our online reputation. Here’s some behind-the-scenes pictures for you all to see… the video will follow!
Year 3 braved the freezing temperatures to investigate soil types around the school grounds. Starting in the nature garden, they dug deep and took samples of the soil. They followed a flow diagram answering questions based on observations and were able to identify the soil as sandy, silty or clay. Fantastic work Y3!
