Year 5 have a fabulous day in the sunshine completing their art topic, Nature’s Art. We started the day thinking about the natural materials available to us, and the placement in our natural environment in which to create our artwork. We then looked at the properties of our chosen materials and why they may or may not work well. After creating our plan, we then spent the afternoon bringing our land art to life!

Year 1 enjoyed a super trip to Newcastle to do some geography fieldwork. We explored all the features of a city, including the cathedrals and universities. We spent a while visiting Grey Street and talked about how it was voted the most beautiful street in Britain. Reverend Jonny came with us, as he is our link governor and he commented on how brilliant the children were! Amazing behaviour, as always Year 1.

St. Oswald’s raised the roof in church on Thursday morning during our Easter service. The Christian council led us through the service, all about the Easter story and Jesus’ humility. We remembered that during Easter, we should be thankful for Jesus’ actions in saving us…. And of course, we sang super loud with lots of energy!

Ozzie Owls had a fantastic last week of term designing their own Easter eggs and wreaths. We put all the children’s work on our windows for you all to see and admire. Mrs Craig could not decide which one to choose so she invited Mrs Chalder who is our Art Lead Member of Staff here at St Oswalds to choose someone from KS1 and KS2 as they were so good.
Mrs Chalder chose our KS1 winner who was Savannah Robertson and our KS2 winner who was Ava Robinson. Each child received two chocolate Easter Eggs as a gift.
Mrs Craig, Miss Morgan and Mrs Pearson were so so proud of all Ozzie Owls as they had all worked so hard and their work was exceptional.
Well done everyone and have an eggceptional Easter.
At the end of term, Reception finished their KRP ‘Ready Steady Grow’ with some Super Salads. We chopped, sliced and peeled using our motor skills to create a salad. We had to think about the positioning to create a face. We then tasted our salads and evaluated them. Well done Reception

After working so hard over the last few weeks, Year 3 and 4 put on an AMAZING performance this week showcasing their Easter Show. We are so so proud of how hard they have all worked learning their parts and all of the songs, well done Year 3 and 4!

Year 5 enjoyed learning all about Islam as they visited, Al Azhar Mosque in Laygate, South Shields. We were also lucky enough to observe the ‘call to prayer’ as one of the five prayers across the day. Did you know… This was the mosque where the great, Muhammad Ali got married in?
Year 3, in maths, were challenged to find a variety of halves within an A4 sheet of paper. They explored to see different ways that they could find and discussed how they knew that they were halves. This is in line with our fractions unit in Maths!

Year 2 have had a brilliant morning at South Shields Town Hall where we went for a tour and met the mayor and mayoress! We were lucky enough to be invited into the mayors offices and learned all about the Town Hall’s history. We would like to say thank you to our class governor, Councillor Porthouse for arranging this for us and joining us on our trip!
