Yesterday morning for collective worship year 1 focused on The fruits of the spirit. The children discussed what the fruits represent and then completed a self-reflection activity thinking about times they have felt joy, kindness, patience, love, gentleness and self-control.
On Wednesday Year 1 walked to Jarrow library in the gorgeous sunshine ☀️. The lovely Catherine read the children some stories then we explored the library and chose a new book to bring back to school.
Y5 learned about the refuse worker strike in Birmingham. Mr Richardson tipped rubbish all over the classroom floor and we discussed whose responsibility it was to clean this up and why. Some great points were made. Well done, Y5!
Year 2 have had a fantastic day learning all about Shakespeare and Queen Elizabeth 1. We began by thinking about why Shakespeare is a mover and shaker and how his plays have impacted many people. Then, we learned about Queen Elizabeth 1 in line with our new History topic ‘Magnificent Monarchs’ and thought about how she was a significant ruler. Finally, we linked the two and determined what Shakespeare and Queen Elizabeth 1 had to do with one another!
Year 4 loved their first Spanish lesson of the summer term! Today we looked at different weather and how to describe lots of different types of weather types in Spanish. We practised both speaking and listening to test our knowledge.
Today has been Shakespeare Day at St Oswald’s, reception learnt all about ‘Who was William Shakespeare and why was he a mover and shaker?’ Children wrote captions with key facts, constructed our own theatres in the style of The Globe, created portraits of the famous playwright and painted The Globe theatre by mixing colours. Great job superstars what a busy day
Reception have loved planning in all the new areas linked to Animals safari . We have explored zoo animals and then ordered food in the Rainforest cafe . The pet dogs have had a make over in the dog groomers.
Today year 1 have been focusing on William Shakespeare as a mover and shaker and what we can learn all about The Globe Theatre. The children completed a fact file all about William Shakespeare learning significant facts about his impact on history. As part of guided reading we completed a reading comprehension, recalling facts from the text. This afternoon we looked at The Globe Theatre. The children located this on a map of London using skills learnt in Geography. They then labelled the theatre and looked at plays that are performed there. To finish off a super day of learning the children then made their very own Globe Theatre.
Year 3 had a fantastic first lesson at swimming. This week we focused on stay a float and kicking our legs. Well done Year 3!
At the end of last half term, Year 1 completed their “Striking and Fielding” unit with their first ever game of rounders. Children practised the skills they built up over the course of the unit, such as striking the ball with a racquet and applied this to the game. We had so much fun and the weather was on our side – for once!
