Y6 have had their thinking caps on this week as we look to solve the daily puzzles set for Maths Week England. These have required us to think in different ways, bringing maths to life new contexts. Great work, Y6!

For Forest School this week, Year 6 and a reception teamed up!
Working together with their new Year 6 buddies, reception listened to the story of Stick Man, and then ventured into the nature garden to make their very own Stick Man puppet! Reception then looked at how we could re tell the story using our creations, with encouragement from our super star Year 6’s!
A real afternoon of teamwork 👍
Y6 went to South Shields Fire Station today for RAP – Reducing Accidents at Play. We learned how to keep ourselves safe in relation to fire, electricity, water, cycling and whilst on the Metro.
Today Y5 took part in National Fitness Day with the whole school. We ran a mile together and spoke about the benefits of fitness and exercise. We discussed how consistently exercising can be beneficial for our mental and physical health, our socialising skills and our bodies.
Year 5 have had a brilliant day at the Laing Art Gallery to participate in a workshop linked to their current art topic ‘Tints, Tone and Shade’. We looked at drawing using perspective, and took inspiration from the art in the gallery to experiment with warm and cool shades.
Today in Y5 we were learning about places in Spanish. We began by learning some key vocabulary and then completed a vocabulary test – our scores were amazing!
Year 5 enjoyed their first Forest School session of the year this afternoon. Linked to our Geography topic ‘Investigating Our World’, we designed our own maps of the nature garden, thinking about both physical and human geographical features. We also impressed Mrs O’Doherty with our knowledge of keys and drawing to scale. Well done Year 5!
Across this week, Year 5 and 6 back at St. Oz have been up to lots! We started with a sports morning where we played rounders and were super competitive. Followed by our final Spanish lesson of the school year. We then moved onto rockpooling with Mr Hayton where we looked at lots of different species and considered how we can protect the habitats from harm. Wednesday was a rainy day, so we completed some rockpool-inspired art. Finally – we had a brilliant time at Shiremoor Adventure Playground where we played on the park, observed wildlife in the pond and toasted some marshmallow s’mores on the fire!
Last week, Y6 and Y5 had a fantastic afternoon at The Word watching a real-life rock band. Different Voices consist of singers, a drummer, some guitarists, some brass instruments and a keyboard. We even had the very talented Hayden on drums for one of the songs. Brilliant afternoon
