Today year 3 created ammonites by drawing a spiral shape into foam and then rolling ink onto them. We then pressed them onto our books to create a spiral ammonite.

Last week in Spanish, year 3 looked at colours and numbers. This week we looked at different countries and in our books we wrote the different countries in Spanish and wrote where we were from. We are really enjoying are our Spanish lessons!
Year 3 had a fab (but very muddy!) session in forest school, this week! Linked to our topic Rocks, Relics and Rumbles, we had an afternoon of geography fieldwork investigating soil in our nature garden. We took samples, looked at its features and properties, made comparisons, and then concluded that the majority of the soil we found was clay soil. Great fieldwork year 3!

Year 3 have had a fantastic afternoon with Seascapes on Seaham Beach. We’ve continued our learning of ‘Rocks, Relics + Rumbles’ and identified limestone, coal and flint. We managed to see a real-life ammonite and even tried to make our own sedimentary rock out of chocolate! We ended our trip by trading stones like so many industries do in the North East!
This morning year 3 got on straight with our early work. We were very impressed with the children’s knowledge of what the children could tell us about orienteering and could recall what they have been doing in PE.
In art with Miss Dixon, we spoke about what a motif was and created a motif based on a real image. We thought carefully about the spacing between the lines and shapes and tried to keep them consistent.
We have been looking around the hall to see what we need to draw-CJ
I have explained to Oscar how long the stage is so he can draw it-LW
I have told Beau the shape of the door-AO
I’m telling my partner about the hall to create a birdseye a view-AR
We have also followed a map to help us with our orienteering obstacle course.
I was keeping the map the same way so I could find the way-DS

Year 3 have been learning how to use direct speech and indirect speech in English today to help us prepare for our shared write for our newspaper article.
We first talked about how and why we need inverted commas and how reporters would use this in their articles. We then changed indirect speech into direct speech and direct speech into indirect speech. We practiced this on our whiteboards and shared them as a class.
For worship this morning we discussed what sins were and how Jesus was an Agent of change as he sacrificed himself on the cross for us. We then placed a stone into a jar for the times we have made wrong choices to show that we would “cast it” away.
