Year 3 have had a fantastic trip to The Winter Gardens in Sunderland. We have taken part in 2 workshops which are linked to our Art and Science curriculum. We began with some botanical art where we observed the leaves of a plant and made our own drawings. In the afternoon, we studied the life cycle of plants and thought about what we can get from them. We also had the best rich experience of all… looking at the world’s largest seed, known as the bum nut!
This week during swimming Year 3 focused on our confidence with the water and some of us concentrated on our backstroke techniques. We love coming to our Monday swimming lessons!
Y3 had a lovely surprise visit from Mrs Chalder and baby Cole. We loved having cuddles with Mrs Chalder and having a little hold of our new member of our Ozzie family. Just look at his gorgeous, long hair!
Year 3 thought about how we could be Agents of Change for people with dementia. We discussed what dementia is and how we could support people who have this. We then made an action plan about how we could help and how we could be Agents of Change, which we will be continuing to do this term during our worship.

Year 3 had a fab time at the library today picking out their new books! We listened to 2 stories read by the librarian and then went off in search of a book to read. We picked up some books on our Summer term topics – Emperors & Empires and Plants! We can’t wait to come back after Easter to start learning about them!
In DT, year 3 have been very busy! Following on from our lesson on Friday, we have designed, created and evaluated a cams mechanism. We had to work as part of a team to create a plan and drawing of the mechanism that our group voted on. We then decided on the equipment needed and the steps required to build it. Once completed, we tested our mechanism and evaluated our work. We were very impressed of our achievements in our Making It Move forward topic!
For Far Away Friday, year 3 explored Italy. In our maths we focused on fractions by using different toppings on pizzas and working out halves and quarters. We then did some research on Italy and created fact files with interesting facts. We then enjoyed a tasty margarita pizza.
In our DT we were looking at cams, we followed instructions and created a mechanism to move our Italian flag which you can see on Seesaw!
For oral health day year 3 got a visit from our school nurses who informed us with a lot of information on how to keep our teeth and gums healthy. We then created posters on seesaw of dos and don’ts and why oral health is important. 🦷🪥
