Year 3 have had a fantastic afternoon with Seascapes on Seaham Beach. We’ve continued our learning of ‘Rocks, Relics + Rumbles’ and identified limestone, coal and flint. We managed to see a real-life ammonite and even tried to make our own sedimentary rock out of chocolate! We ended our trip by trading stones like so many industries do in the North East!
This morning year 3 got on straight with our early work. We were very impressed with the children’s knowledge of what the children could tell us about orienteering and could recall what they have been doing in PE.
In art with Miss Dixon, we spoke about what a motif was and created a motif based on a real image. We thought carefully about the spacing between the lines and shapes and tried to keep them consistent.

Year 3 have been learning how to use direct speech and indirect speech in English today to help us prepare for our shared write for our newspaper article.
We first talked about how and why we need inverted commas and how reporters would use this in their articles. We then changed indirect speech into direct speech and direct speech into indirect speech. We practiced this on our whiteboards and shared them as a class.
For worship this morning we discussed what sins were and how Jesus was an Agent of change as he sacrificed himself on the cross for us. We then placed a stone into a jar for the times we have made wrong choices to show that we would “cast it” away.
On Friday, year 3 looked at church leaders and how they live their lives like Jesus wanted people to live. They talked about how they shared the word of God, like disciples. They also looked at the different jobs they do for the Church and community. They gave examples such as: weddings, baptisms, visiting the sick, visiting schools and leading worship. Then, Y3 designed a work week for a priest and created a job advert for the ‘Perfect Priest’.
Yesterday, year 3 have had a fun filled day for World Book Day! We have linked our learning to The Elves and the Shoemaker.
In maths we have been helping the Elves measure the perimeter of our shoes using the Elves shoe laces.
For our speaking and listening lesson we took turns reading the story of The Elves and the Shoemaker. We then used our speaking and listening skills to talk about what our favourite part of the story was and who our favourite character was and why. We also were asked was there any part of the story we disliked but to our teachers delight we loved every part! This afternoon we created newspaper reports about the elves who helped a shoemaker and his wife.
Year 3 have had a super day!
Y3 discussed Picture News this morning all about World Book Day. We discussed how we feel about how some children do not own books at home and what those children would be missing out when they don’t have any books to enjoy. We also spoke about why is World Book Day celebrated in schools and why we love it so much! 
For our Cool Task in art we created what we thought an ammonite looked like using play dough and recorded what we thought ammonite was. We linked this back to our previous topic prehistoric pots to help us. We can’t wait to start our new topic in art!
