As part of our science topic around the digestive system, Year 4 have been looking at teeth. We had the opportunity to interview a dentist to answer all of our questions on oral health.
Jessica was fantastic at answering all of questions to help strengthen our knowledge, and gave us lots of top tips for looking after our teeth and gums!
On Friday, Year 4 visited Jarrow Hall as part of their Invasion topic. It was the most amazing rich experience, involving a visit to an Anglo-Saxon farm and a replica Anglo-Saxon village.
Children learnt all about which animals the Anglo-Saxons would have kept and why. After this, children then sat in an Anglo-Saxon hall and listened to the story of Beowulf, told round a campfire. In the afternoon, children completed workshops linked to Anglo-Saxon life.
Year 4 had a great afternoon in Forest School. We have just started out new maths unit, multiplication and division. To refresh our memory on our times tables, we completed a multiplication hunt around the nature garden, matching up the questions with the correct answers.
Today Year 4 carried out an experiment to conduct some scientific research!
We have been looking at how we can look after our teeth, and have been testing the effect of fluoride on eggs to see if we can determine the effects of fluoride on our teeth. We are going to be completing observations over the course of today and tomorrow before making our conclusions.
As part of our worship challenge this week, we have been looking at character reflection, and how we can manage our emotions. We looked at the ‘zones of regulation’ and discussed as a class strategies to get into the ‘green zone’.
Year 4 visited the library this morning. Catherine, the lovely librarian, read us all some stories which we thoroughly enjoyed, before we explored the books in the library. We loved checking out all of the Anglo Saxon and Viking books Catherine had found for us linked to our Invasion topic!
In maths, Year 4 we have been looking at trial and error to help us with our maths problem solving. We completed some Nrich activities this morning, trying to work out missing numbers…this really helped us to focus on our perseverance!
This week in science, Year 4 have been looking at teeth. We used the mirrors to count how many teeth we have, and if we could spot the different types of teeth. We then put our teeth into action and ate some apple and bread, thinking about which teeth we needed to use to bite and chew.
Year 4 have started their new maths topic area this week. Some of us have found drawing shapes of a certain area a bit tricky.
In guided maths, some of us worked with Mrs O’Doherty using the concrete resources to explore making shapes of different areas, making both regular and irregular shapes, and shapes using an even number of blocks, and odd numbers of blocks.
