What a fabulous morning Year 4 had yesterday!
We visited Pizza Express in Jesmond to attend a pizza making workshop, where we were very kindly shown by the chef how to replicate one of their famous pizzas for ourselves! We shaped our dough, before adding our toppings…but of course our favourite part was bringing them back to school to eat for our lunch!

As part of UK Parliament Week, Year 4 have been looking at what an election is, and what a Prime Minister is. We used our oracy skills to discuss our big question ‘Is an election the best way to choose a government?’ We used our eyes to eyes and knees to knees technique to explain our points of view to each other.
Year 4 had a fab forest School session last week making a start on their new art topic, Warp and Weft.
First we thought about the history of weaving, and how this has developed over time. Then looked at different materials, including natural materials we found in the nature garden, and practiced our weaving techniques. We thought about which materials were easier to weave with and why, and thought about what properties these materials had.
This week, Year 4 had their Oracy training with Mrs Smith and Mrs Sharrock. Our focus this week was ‘listening to understand’.
We were challenged to sit back to back with our friends, and try to draw the image they are describing by using 100% focus, and asking the right questions.
For Children in Need, we had an oracy session using all we had learned in our training, and challenged each other to draw Pudsey bears using our listening and speaking skills. We also used our eyes to eyes and knees to knees technique to talk about Children in Need and its purpose.
Year 4 were very lucky to spend the morning with Mr Robert from the Openzone. Using the Chromebooks, we recorded our very own podcasts on BandLab! We looked at editing our audio clips, adding music and cutting out the parts we didn’t want…amazing work Year 4!
What a brilliant time Year 4 had on their trip to the Discovery Museum yesterday. We took part in a workshop all about sound in line with our new Science topic. We learned all about sound waves and how we actually hear sounds. We then put our scientist hats on and conducted some experiments to explore the pitch and volume of sound.
Last week Year 4 were super lucky to take part in an exciting Money Sense workshop hosted by NatWest. We looked at budgeting, and working in groups, we had to plan a party within our budget limitations. Thanks so much Mrs Whittle for organising this for us!
As part of anti bullying week, year 4 looked at peer pressure. We discussed what this was, and how it can be both positive, and negative. As a class we then looked at different scenarios to determine who was being pressured and how, and then discussed what our own actions could be in those scenarios.
Today, Year 4 completed their narrative poetry Gold Write. In line with our oracy focus in school, Miss Marley talked to the class around the physical aspects of oracy, such as gesturing, tone of voice, using appropriate pauses and speaking fluently.
We practiced in our partners, then read out our finished poems to the class thinking about everything we had learned. We loved showcasing our writing! Well done Year 4!
