Year 4 have LOVED the arrival of their class elf this week. We held a class vote to name him, and have loved watching his antics each day!

) and Lilidorei village full of elves, hobgoblins and sprites. We hung our own decorations on our very own St Oswald’s Christmas tree and listened to a festive story, before having our lunch. We even saw some reindeer too!

What a gorgeous festive day!

Last week Tony Clark (Anya and AJ’s dad) got the Headteacher’s star of the week certificate for his amazing knowledge of the Vikings and sharing this with Year Four during their COOL afternoon. Here he is proudly showing off his certificate which is now proudly on show on the family fridge!
Last week Year 4 enjoyed their half termly library visit. We enjoyed our story from Catherine the librarian, before returning our books. We then explored the library and took out some new books to read back at school.
Year 4 have had a fabulous DT filled day! For our DT topic, Fresh Food Good Food, we have been looking at healthy snacks. We started by looking at food packaging, working out what information was found on packaging and why it was there. Then we designed our own packaging, making sure we included all the necessary information.
We then spent our afternoon making our very own healthy snacks. Using all of our culinary skills, we created some fruity popcorn, some hummus, and some fruit skewers. We enjoyed trying these before thinking about our evaluations after.
Year 4 LOVED our first ‘No Pens Day’ this week! We spent our morning looking at how we could perform a Christmas song using makaton, and then we looked at the poem ‘The Railway Carriage’. We looked at how we could use physical oracy features to perform this as a class, as well as discussing the features and language used in the poem.

Year 4 had visitors in class this morning to deliver a road safety session. We talked about how we could stay as safe as we could be, both in a car (by ALWAYS wearing our seat belts!) and also when we are a pedestrian. We were also lucky to get our own reflective slap band to help us stay seen in the dark!
This week as part of our whole school oracy training, Mrs Smith talked to us about resolving a problem. For our challenge, we had to watch a video about an argument, and think about each persons perspective, and, as a peer mediator, how would we help to resolve that issue.
Year 4 discussed this as a class, thinking about each person having an opportunity to speak, listening to each other’s point of view, empathising and staying calm.
This week in PE, year 4 continued to focus on hockey. We looked at our ball control, and how we could use our hockey stick to maintain control….which wasn’t always easy!
