Reception began their new PE unit today ‘ ‘Gymnastics.’
We explored different rolling techniques and developed our balancing skills during the session.
Our mover and shaker for Maths is Fibonacci. Yesterday, reception looked at his theory of patterns and spirals. We created our own patterns in the different areas. We could talk about patterns we noticed and our own patterns and spirals we made.
As part of their ready steady grow topic, reception exploring printing. They used a variety of fruit and vegetables to print and make their own prints. Children explored using different colour. We talked about the different fruits and vegetables and the textures.
For reception’s COOL afternoon we made cards with our parents and carers. We then performed ‘Magic Penny’ to share the message of LOVE ❤️
Reception have had a gorgeous world book day. We all came in dressed as some of our favourite characters. We talked about who we were, drew a picture and the at the end of the day voted for the best dressed.
Today reception listened to and based all of their learning around the story ‘the extraordinary gardener’. We started our day by discussing what we understood about the word gardener and then explored reception’s garden for our collection game. We then planted some of our beans and made our own grass garden. The sun was shining so we enjoyed a variety of activities outside including; mark making in the dirt, leaf rubbing, natural objects printing in dough, nature art, litter picking and using the wheelbarrows to tidy our garden. What a gorgeous day!
The very talented Mrs O’Doherty pulled out all the stops today during Forest School. We started the session by watching a video titled ‘Are eggs alive?”
Reception engaged in several outdoor activities, including making nests to protect the birds’ eggs. We whisked the ingredients to make a batter mix, observing what eggs look like with and without their shells. Mrs O’Doherty supported the children around the fire pit as they cooked the pancakes and added their preferred toppings. Finally, we ended the session by eating our delicious pancakes.
Reception have had a fab morning at the Laing Art gallery. We took part in ‘Let’s visit an art gallery’ workshop. We discussed different types of art, what an artist is and what resources we could use. We played I Spy, used lines and marks to represent feelings and then created our own art gallery.
Reception have had a jam-packed day! We baked our own Victoria Sponge cake as part of our Long Ago learning. We mixed the ingredients, baked the cakes, decorated them and finally tasted them! Well done Reception.
As part of their Long Ago KRP, reception looked at portraits. We each created our own using clay. We had to manipulate the clay to make the different features of our face!
