Reception have been thinking about who are special to them.

Reception showed off their ball skills during a games of dodgeball in their PE Session ⚽️

This half term, reception are practising their ball skills. This week in PE we practised our throwing, catching and aiming. We used these skills to play a competitive game of dodgeball.

For Time to Talk Day, reception were set the challenge of listening to and retelling the story ‘The Growing Story’. We listened to the story and used actions to retell the key parts. Next, we sequenced the story and used voices recording to retell it in our own words. We then investigated the signs of spring, looked at seasonal change and planting seeds. For our COOL afternoon we shared our learning with our parents and carers, including planting sunflower seeds together.


This week, reception were challenged to facial expressions in Oracy. We had different emotion cards and we had to express them using our faces and bodies to our partners who had to guess them!

Reception love the topic ‘Stories and Rhymes.’
Yesterday they followed a recipe to make porridge linked to Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Honey was added before tasting the porridge. All the children agreed that it tasted sweet and yummy!

Reception had a lovely morning at Jarrow Library. They listened carefully as Catharine the librarian read them two stories. The children explored the library looking at the different books and picked out their favourite book to bring back to school.

This morning, reception visited Dhammakaya Meditation Centre of Newcastle as part of our RE unit Places of Worship. We visited the buildings and listened to stories of Buddha. We learnt about the importance of meditation and karma in the Buddhist religion.
Reception have been creative this morning and we have created our own crowns. We linked this to our traditional tales topic. We talked about the materials we wanted to use, where kings and queens live and practised our cutting skills.
