This week, reception have been looking at the story ‘The Princess and the Pea’. In phonics we completed some independent writing, linked to the pictures from the story. We applied our knowledge of our phase 3 sounds and tricky words. Reception staff were so proud we had to share our writing with Mrs Sharrock and Mrs Smith

Reception used body percussion and untuned instruments to retell the story of the Gingerbread man.
Reception have had a busy morning during planning time. This week we are learning all about ‘The Princess and the Pea’ as part of our Stories and Rhymes topic. We have helped the princess find the pea, developing our fine motor skills. We have been thinking about pencil control and finding our way through the maze. Some of us have made our own beds for the princess and others have been exploring colours and colour mixing in the art area.

This week reception have been exploring and comparing mass. Today, we used balance scales to compare amounts. We used our knowledge of numbers and numbers bonds within 10 to help!

Reception were lucky enough to have some special visitors today. We invited grandparents in to talk about their childhood and how life has changed. It was gorgeous to spend some time with them, looking at toys and photographs. We then sang some of our favourite nursery rhymes linked to our companion topic ‘Stories and Rhymes’. A huge THANK YOU to all of our visitors!

Reception have been looking at special places and how these places make us feel. We talked about being outside in nature and how this can be a special place. We went to explore out outdoor areas, and we closed our eyes to help us listen to the sounds we could hear. We talked about how this made us feel calm and peaceful, and why nature was important to us.

Fun, laughter and engagement reached fever point in Reception this afternoon.
