As part of our Long Ago topic, reception have been exploring colour and colour mixing. We have painted toys from the past using black, white and grey. We explored making our paint different shades by mixing more black or white.
This afternoon reception have been learning about L.S Lowry. We started off discussing our understanding of a mover and shaker and an artist. We then talked his life and his artwork. After that we used charcoal pencils to sketch a portrait of Lowry. We recalled facts we learnt. 
Reception had a busy day as we visited the Discovery Museum. We started off our morning by listening to Amy read the story ‘Lost in the Museum’. We then completed a quiz in games, where we had to find different toys described. We then explored and handled different toys. We had to describe what the toys were made from and decide if they were from the past or now! We will have some super tired boys and girls!
Reception had a fab afternoon in the nature garden for their forest school session this week. We have focused on our local environment and how we can make positive changes. We got to work and cleared all of the litter in our garden after discussing the negative impact this can have on our wildlife, as well as making bird feeders to help encourage the birds to visit us in the winter months.
At the end of the session, after lots of requests, we fed the chickens and ducks too! Great work reception, what a jam packed afternoon you had!
Today Humpty Dumpty needed help from the Reception children. He asked them to explore different materials to create a protective jacket.
We had so much fun wrapping our eggs up to protect them, using our chosen materials.
Our final challenge was to test out our protective jackets . We sang the Nursery Rhyme ‘ Humpty Dumpty ‘and let our eggs fall from on the wall.
Reception have been working hard on their phonics and letter formation. We have been tracing our letters and reading CVC words. Some children were identifying the pictures and applying their phonics to write words independently. Amelia and Joey, our buddies, joined us in guided reading to support us with our learning.
Reception had a gorgeous afternoon completing work around their favourite storybooks! The children discussed why they liked it, the characters in the story, and the main events. To end the day, their Y6 buddies came to reception and they shared the story together – it was fantastic!
Oliver in Reception has had an amazing Christmas holiday! His adventures include lots of family time, walks at the beach with his best friend, bowling, games and practicing reading (and a lot of trying to teach his sister not to bite him!)!! We are so pleased you’ve had such a great Christmas Oliver!!
WOW! What a performance. Well done to all of our fabulous reception boys and girls for their nativity “Shine Star Shine”. Thank you to all of our parents and carers for joining us in the church. We are so proud of all of our reception children. Merry Christmas 
Reception LOVED their Christmas dinner today. We all tried some new food and enjoyed the Christmas pudding. A huge thank you to all of the dinner staff.
