Reception started their new maths topic this morning, find 4 and 5!
Children had to represent the number 4 using multi link cubes. We looked at the different ways we could make 4. Then some of us found 4 and 5 in our environment. We were able to recognise amounts without touch counting.
On Friday, Reception had a fun filled afternoon for Children in Need. After our discussed about young carers, we identified the qualities of a carer and how our adults help us at home. Then we completed a carousel of activities linked to Pudsey and CIN. Reception looked fab in their pyjamas and colourful clothing!
During guided reading and our early work, Reception have been practising reading and writing CVC words. We have been identifying individual sounds and then blending them!
This week Reception have been exploring 2D and 3D shapes, with a focus on triangles and circles.
As part of our independent learning we have been exploring shapes through art, taking inspiration from Kandinsky. Some children were drawing different circles and describing their properties. Others were identifying triangles and circles on 3D shapes and printing using paint. Children were able to discuss their understanding of shapes using mathematical vocabulary and compare the different shapes.
To celebrate World Diabetes Day, Reception had some visitors to talk about Type 1 Diabetes and we listened to a story about Superhero Daisy! We designed our own capes.
We then listened to a story about Coco and how she manages her diabetes. We ordered the sequence of events. In our continuous provision we looked at food groups and sorting food into the correct robots.
Wow! What a morning we have had in Reception. We were lucky enough to have a visit from PCSO Jamie and Jane. They did a little discussion around how the police can help us.
We then looked at the different uniforms they wear. We were lush enough to try them on. After that, we went outside to look at their emergency vehicle. We got to sit in the car and look at the lights!
For our new KRP, Reception have been looking at Marvellous Machines. We have been thinking about machines then and now. We thought about how machines help us in our homes. We sorted machines and discussed how they have changed.
