There’s been a lot of window peeking today in reception. Our children have been in awe of the weather and the snow and hailstones that have been stopping and starting!

Our reception children had SO much fun with the Beebots this morning! We all had a good giggle (I bet you can guess why!) whilst programming them and following instructions to program specific directions and movements.
Reception started their Miles Away Monday to Japan with a bang! We put our cookery skills to the test and made vegetable noodle soup. We had to listen carefully and follow instructions and then use a range of tools and equipment safely. We chopped, peeled, cut, sliced and grated a range of different vegetables. We then added our ingredients to a wok and mixed them.
After our busy morning cooking we got to try our final product! Well done our mini chefs!
In guided reading today, Reception practised reading and blending CVC words. They loved playing the game on Phonics Play!
Reception and Y6 paired up for their prayer space session today. They really do get on so well and were all able to complete a range of prayer activities together. Well done, Reception and Y6!
Reception loved their road safety workshop today! We talked about how to cross the road safely, how to use the green man and the role of the lollipop person!
Reception started their new maths topic this morning, find 4 and 5!
Children had to represent the number 4 using multi link cubes. We looked at the different ways we could make 4. Then some of us found 4 and 5 in our environment. We were able to recognise amounts without touch counting.
On Friday, Reception had a fun filled afternoon for Children in Need. After our discussed about young carers, we identified the qualities of a carer and how our adults help us at home. Then we completed a carousel of activities linked to Pudsey and CIN. Reception looked fab in their pyjamas and colourful clothing!
During guided reading and our early work, Reception have been practising reading and writing CVC words. We have been identifying individual sounds and then blending them!
This week Reception have been exploring 2D and 3D shapes, with a focus on triangles and circles.
As part of our independent learning we have been exploring shapes through art, taking inspiration from Kandinsky. Some children were drawing different circles and describing their properties. Others were identifying triangles and circles on 3D shapes and printing using paint. Children were able to discuss their understanding of shapes using mathematical vocabulary and compare the different shapes.
