In RE yesterday year 1 have been focusing on ‘how does Jesus help Christians find peace?’ The children explored the scripture John 14:27, Jesus told his disciples ‘my peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled and do not be afraid’. They then thought of ways Christians can find peace when they are sad, angry or disappointed.
In Maths today year 1 have started their new topic of ‘length and height’. The children compared heights of each other and explored maths vocabulary such as ‘taller’ and ‘shorter’.
For this weeks worship challenge, as part of Neurodiversity week, year 1 have been focusing on ‘support’. The children discussed what autism is and explained how they can offer each other support and that sometimes children might see things differently.
Year 1 have had a fabulous afternoon in the sunshine for forest school today! We continued with our science learning around seasonal changes, focusing on weather. We made our very own rain gauges so we could measure the rainfall in the nature garden. To end our afternoon, we looked for the signs of spring we could recognise….the nature garden was bursting with buds and blossom which we loved finding!
Wow Year 1, our performing superstars! We are so proud of you all for your amazing singing in our grandparents concert this morning. Thank you to all our fabulous grandparents for coming along, we loved it!
Year One have had a fabulous afternoon learning all about the mover and shaker, Sir Christopher Wren. They were able to link this to their topic, Bright Lights, Big City and discovered that he was very influential in the rebuilding of the capital after the great fire. As well as learning lots of facts about his life, significance and the impact he has had, they also became architects themselves and had a go a drawing St Paul’s Cathedral just like he would have done back in 1666.
Year 1 started their new topic in PE today, striking and fielding. As part of our COOL task the children used a racquet and ball to practice their striking skills. We also focused on key vocabulary seen on the pic collage.
For this week’s Oracy challenge, year 1 were set the challenge of writing a postcard about a visit to London and to uplevel the words we use. The children completed the challenge doing a shared write and thought of many synonyms linked to their visit and landmarks.
