Wow year 1 have super impressed their teachers this morning in English. The children have started to plan their narrative story all about a visit to London. We can’t wait to share some of our stories in our class assembly next week.

For worship this morning year 1 have been practising songs ready for our Grandparent’s concert on Wednesday 19th March. We focused on two songs from the 2000’s. To end worship we read a story related to Grandparent’s day that we chose at the library yesterday.

On Thursday morning, Year 1 did a cross curricular Music and English lesson. Children were all given percussion instruments and were asked to use these instruments to enhance storytelling of Jack and the Beanstalk. We discussed pitch and how using progressively higher notes on the glockenspiel could represent Jack climbing higher up the beanstalk and lower notes for him climbing down. Children were asked to use their own notation to remind themselves of how many times they would beat / shake their instrument.

Today, Year 1 read the parable of The Unforgiving Servant. We discussed the meaning of the story and role played this. We even had someone in role as Jesus and children “hot seated” him by asking him questions around the the teachings in the story. Children were brilliant at discussing forgiveness and why that is important to all people, not just Christians.
For this week’s worship Year 1 have been thinking outside of the box linked to how Jesus was innovative.

Year 1 finished their computing unit on programming yesterday . The children planned a simple program using what they have learnt so far then for their gold task they explored how they can use different routes to get to the same place.
