COOL Afternoon – 30.1.17

This is just a reminder about our forthcoming COOL (Come Observe Our Learning) afternoon on Monday 30th January from 2:30pm-end of school.

 

This is an opportunity to get some first-hand experience of what your child’s typical learning looks like at St Oswald’s.

 

You are more than welcome to join in with your child and equally have a wander around the different classrooms in the school to see how the learning progresses from one year group to another.

 

We would ask that you don’t disturb the teacher if whole class teaching is taking place however, once the children are on task feel free to ask any questions you may have regarding the children’s learning.

 

We would love to see as many of you as possible!

Cuppa and a Catch Up – We would love to see you!

The FRoSTOz (Friends of St Oswald’s) Group would like to invite you all for a cuppa and a catch up following praise and celebration assembly each Friday morning.

 

This is a chance for all parents, carers and grandparents to pop along and have a natter about anything you wish (it doesn’t have to be school related).

 

Andrea Scott (Family Support Worker) will also be available in order to answer any queries regarding school or to help in any other way we can.

 

We look forward to seeing you on Friday if you can make it.

Year Six SAT Meeting

We would like to invite you all to the first meeting, next week of FROSTOZ (Friends of St Oswald’s Group).  This meeting will take place on Tuesday 17th January 2016 at 4pm and will last no longer than 45 minutes.

 

The purpose of the group is for staff, governors, parents/carers, grandparents and members of the local community to help to be champions of the school and fundraise for the pupils of the school.

 

This initial meeting we hope to get as many people to join us as possible.

 

Ideally, we would like initially to raise funds to further develop our outdoor space and help to subsidise trips and extra educational experiences.

 

If you don’t have childcare don’t worry!  A member of staff will be able to entertain your little ones.

 

We really hope to see you there and attach an agenda for the forthcoming meeting.  If you are able to attend and would like to help champion St Oswald’s please complete the slip below and return to school.

St Oswald’s CE VA Primary School Blue Monday Joke Results

Each year the Local Authority promotes a ‘Blue Monday’ campaign to ‘Make Someone Smile’ on what is thought to be the most depressing day of the year. This year, they encouraged all young people and employees to write down their funniest joke, which was entered into a competition judged by local comedian Chris Ramsey. All of the submitted jokes, from across the authority, are going to be displayed in the new library, The Word in South Shields.

The children below have either shortlisted and in the case of Lily in Year Five her joke was a winner chosen by Chris Ramsey.  They are invited to attend a presentation with the Mayor at The Word on Monday 16th of January.  Letters will be distributed tomorrow.

Well done to all of our children who entered the competition, were shortlisted or in the case of Lily have won!!!

Reception Nativity, Carol Service and Sing-a-Long – Thursday 15th December

Please bring a Christmas hat for the Sing-a-Long. We hope to see you all there.

School Christmas Fayre

Thank you so much to everyone for attending our Christmas Fayre yesterday and an extra special thank you to Mrs Scott for organising it all.  We raised a whopping £814.54 which will help to subsidise trips etc.  Thank you so much for all of you for your support.

Lifesavers

Dear Parents/Carers,

We are delighted that our school has been selected to be part of the LifeSavers programme.

LifeSavers supports primary schools in setting up savings clubs, and helping children and their families learn about money. It is a collaborative partnership between the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Just Finance Foundation and education charity Young Enterprise. LifeSavers is being offered to primary schools across the country, with financial support from Virgin Money.

LifeSavers aims to equip children with the knowledge, skills, attitudes and experiences to manage money well, now and in the future.  It also explores four core values around money:  thankfulness, wisdom, justice and generosity.

 

As part of LifeSavers, we will be teaching money lessons in the classroom, and we will be holding whole school assemblies looking at the four core values. There may be some homework activities around money that your child will ask you to be involved with!

Next term, we will also be launching a schools savings club for pupils, run by pupils and adult volunteers. We will be planning the club this term, and will be looking for parents and carers who are interested in volunteering to help run the club (with full training and support provided).

In addition, we plan to hold some workshops and events later in the year, for families to find out how to help children to learn about money at home, as well as at school.

 

We’re excited to be taking part in LifeSavers. If you would like to know more, if you would be interested in volunteering for the savings club, or you have any questions, please do get in touch with the school ‘LifeSavers Champion’ [insert name].
