On Friday, Year 2 had an absolutely brilliant trip to the Laing Art Gallery! In the morning children explored the gallery, looking at portraits, landscapes and other artworks and completed various self led tasks. Children were very interested and there was lots of sticky knowledge evident in their discussions. Then in the afternoon we did a super, hands on portrait workshop which linked amazingly well to our current art topic. A great time was had by all!
Reception are loving their new topic and provision this week linked to our new topic of ‘At the beach’! 
We have had lots of fun exploring shells, seaweed and sea creatures in our investigation area 
and have also loved our new ice cream shop in our role play area!
Yesterday, Y5 had a fab trip to the Laing Art Gallery in Newcastle. We initially took part in a workshop all about portraiture where we considered facial expressions and how they can tell a story in a piece of art. We then moved onto thinking about expressionism and created our own brilliant mixed media collages. After that, we went on a ‘gallery trail’ where we studied different pieces of art and considered their meanings/stories.
Year 3 enjoyed getting to know each other better as part of a friendship session ran by the Year 6s. The children paired up with others outside of their normal friendship group and found out what they had in common. The children drew Venn diagrams in the yard to share their similarities and differences. At break time, they then shared these with their friends in other classes too. Thanks so much Year 6 
Today, year 2 continued with their Magnificent Monarchs work on timelines. Today we looked at different historical periods and ordered monarchs and their reigns by using dates. This was a tricky concept but we really enjoyed it!
KS1 multi-sports club kicked off the term with some non-stop cricket, testing our our batting and fielding skills, scoring runs and getting the ball back to our target!
Today Year 4 spent worship with some of our fab Year 6 children to complete a workshop around friendship. We discussed how it is ok to have similarities and differences to our friends, and we created Venn diagrams to display what we had in common with our classmates.
Year 6 had a fantastic day at Durham yesterday for their leaver’s service. We spent some time down on the River Wear, reflecting and working on some transition activities. Before heading into the Cathedral, we enjoyed our packed lunches on the grass. Along with other Church of England Schools, we completed some Prayer Space activities to help us think about ‘Moving On’ to our secondary schools. Then was the service itself, where we sang songs, listened to readings and received blessings. A fun-packed day!
