On Monday 13th June Year 2 and Year 6 visited Al Azhar Mosque in South Shields. As part of our learning in RE we learnt about the five pillars of Islam and praying. Children had fantastic discussions with Daniel and Ismail from the Islamic Diversity. We then visited West Park for a packed lunch and a play in the park.
Y6 had a fantastic time at their leavers’ service at Durham Cathedral! We completed prayer space activities all around transition before the service itself. We also enjoyed a little wander around Durham. Well done, Y6!
Y6 made a wealth of tremendous meals today! Each child was given 100g of mince meat and then created a dish from around the world that they’d researched. The gorgeous smells at break time spoke for themselves! Well done, Y6.
On Friday, Y6 made rag-bag toys to bring their WWII topic to an end. The 1940s principle of “make do and mend” is becoming more relevant to modern day life as we all look to become more sustainable in our living bearing in mind climate change and global warming, much like wartime Britons had to because of rationing. Lots of fab DT going on, Y6!
As part of their science learning, Y6 handled and dissected lamb hearts. This was a great way to learn practically about the function of the heart. Well done, Y6!
Year 5 and 6 took part in playing some after school friendlies this week against Toner Avenue. We all had a fantastic time and enjoyed playing for fun and building our confidence in matches 
We can’t wait to have them back in Summer term!
Linked to our WW2 topic, we have been learning the dance techniques of the Lindy Hop. We have really enjoyed focussing on the footwork and the hand-jive.
During a Computing Day, Y6 created algorithms focused around selection and variables. We first learned the language of computing, linking this to English by thinking about necessary and unnecessary word classes, before applying our computational thinking to some simple coding. Well done, Y6!
Y6 had a fantastic day yesterday visiting Victoria Tunnel and exploring all that Ouseburn has to offer!
