Yesterday, Year 5 had a jam-packed day! We were lucky enough to have a metro session in the morning where we learned about the new metro lines and how to keep ourselves safe when using them. In the afternoon, we spent some time with Lucy Turner, a famous heptathlete! We took part in some fitness activities and then joined her for a Q&A session in the hall!

In Year 5, have been studying 80’s Synth-Pop music. We have looked at 3 different songs so far: Don’t You Want Me by The Human League, Don’t You (Forget About Me) by Simple Minds and Smalltown Boy by Bronski Beat. We have considered the context of the 80’s, thinking about what was happening in the world at the time, developed our knowledge of key vocabulary and discussed the meaning of the three songs. Some of the songs have even linked to our whole school focus this year on protected characteristics!
In Science, Year 5 have been learning about forces. We began by looking at the force of gravity and discussed how the moon has a different gravitational pull to the Earth. We then moved onto mass and weight and clarified the confusion between the two! Year 5 were brilliant at distinguishing between Newtons and grams!
In Year 5, we have been learning about tints, tones and shades. We completed our first Art topic yesterday and focused on mixing paints to create an array of colours. We then moved onto sketching where we studied horizons, distance and the depth of objects. Year 5 created some brilliant final pieces!
During yesterday’s forest school, Year 5 were focusing on making ‘natural sound clips.’ We discussed what a soundscape is and took ourselves over to the nature garden to manipulate and record a range of our own clips. We then used maps of the nature garden to help us when listening to others’ work – our aim was to identify where each group had recorded their clips!
