Yesterday, Y5 were lucky enough to take part in an Internet safety drama session. We thought about how phones can be used as weapons and how cyber bullying is on the rise. We then created freeze-frames for different cyber bullying scenarios and thought about how we would react to them if they happened to us in real life.
Yesterday in Year 5 we took the opportunity whilst it was ‘safer Internet day’ to have open and honest discussions with our parents about our conduct online. We wrote down our own questions to ask our grown ups and encouraged our grown ups to ask us questions too. Miss Topping and Miss Robson were super impressed with the children’s maturity and overheard many brilliant chats!
On Friday, Year 5 had a fantastic trip to The Word. We took part in lots of coding activities where we had to use our skills to tinker and debug any problems that arose. We also filmed a news clip all about our online reputation. Here’s some behind-the-scenes pictures for you all to see… the video will follow!
Today, Y5 have had a brilliant day looking at everybody’s work and participating in ‘protected characteristics prayer space day’. They were very mature, reflective and held brilliant discussions with one another. Well done Y5!
This afternoon, Y5 had their first Spanish lesson of the year! We started our new topic by learning the Spanish words for lots of different places in town. Y5 were brilliant and used some of their sticky knowledge from Y4/Y3 to support their learning – they began as Spanish experts!
On Friday, Year 5 took part in ‘Christmas Through Age’ Day! We thought and discussed many Christmas days of past and present. We were incredibly lucky to have a range of visitors who were brilliant and talked to us about their Christmas traditions. Year 5 were incredibly engaged all day and had some brilliant questions!
Today, Y5 completed a range of brilliant tasks during prayer space day. We thought about the Christmas story and applied some of the concepts/key themes during our modern day reflections.
Yesterday, Y5 were lucky enough to go out on a trip to The Hancock Museum. We learnt all about our current science topic ‘Earth and Space’ – particularly considering how the moon affects the tides in our seas and oceans. We were then able to spend some time in the museum looking at all of the lovely things they had to offer!
This morning, Year 5 completed their ‘show racism the red card’ session. We learned all about our world views and who they are influenced by, what racism is and how we can challenge racism in modern day Britain!
Yesterday, Year 5 learned all about diabetes. We read a novel called ‘Rosie Becomes a Warrior’ that told us all about the signs, symptoms and medical treatments associated with type 1 diabetes. We then spoke to Miss Robson as her sister has diabetes – she was able to tell us all about how diabetes can impact a person (and their family’s) life and she even wowed Miss Pape and Miss Topping with her knowledge. Some visitors then came in to class to discuss diabetes even more! What a jam-packed morning!
