Y6 had a great time learning with Mr Robert, who helped us start creating our own websites. He showed the class how to create headers, change fonts and themes, add separate pages and how to link pages using buttons. Y6 are using their knowledge about the slave trade to create their websites.
Y6 loved their maths and history workshop today! We learned about the importance of mental maths through the mathematician, Thomas Fuller, who was a black slave in the 18th century known for having lightning quick mental maths skills.
During the workshop, we completed our own mental maths calculations and developed our understanding of how to become a mathematician like Thomas Fuller, developing our disciplinary knowledge of maths.
Year 6 spent the afternoon in the nature garden thinking about some of our Movers and Shakers. We focused on Marie Curie in line with National Science Week, and Martin Luther King for Black History Month, who are our Science and History Movers and Shakers.

On Monday afternoon, reception paired up with their buddies in Y6 for RE. We were looking at God’s Wonderful World. We went on a nature walk around the nature garden and collected some different autumnal objects. We then took a photograph of one wonder that awed us. We had a gorgeous afternoon with our buddies.
Year 6 had a great time at South Shields Community Fire Station for Reducing Accidents at Play. The class went through a variety of scenarios and information seminars from road safety, Nexus, RNLI, Northern Powergrid and fire service. The children learnt how to be safe in these areas and understand the dangers that apply to the real world.
Year 6 had a fantastic Forest School session this week linked to our current DT topic. We started by making our own campfire bread, following the recipe and thinking about our technique handling the dough. After, we compared our own bread with shop bought bread, thinking about the differences in taste, texture and ingredients.
Year 6 had a fantastic time looking at and dissecting a lamb’s heart! The children were able to feel the heart and look inside to identify the parts that make up its structure. The children also discussed the travel of blood flow in and out of the heart. Very well done to Year 6!

What an absolute treat Mrs Urwin had on Thursday afternoon. Y5 created their own structures in DT linked to their Groundbreaking Greeks KRP. We looked at stability, stiffness and support. There was also lots of links to our maths. Thank you Y5 for a gorgeous afternoon!
Year 5 enjoyed our trip to Laing Art Gallery and Exhibition Park. We worked with Kevin on creating our own portraits and included things that represented us. Then we practiced our rugby skills and even managed to squeeze in some time at the park!
