Last week in Year 6, we were looking at stencils and how we could create Inuit pictures and stories with one or more stencils!

Y6 spent their afternoon, on Friday, researching an indigenous group from the Arctic Circle, in line with their main topic, Frozen Kingdoms. In their own groups, they organised themselves to research different features of their indigenous group and had to use their oracy skills to present their findings to the class.

Y6 took part in a Nexus workshop this morning. As the children are approaching the age of using the metros without adult supervision, they were taught and reminded about how to use the metros and how to stay safe.

Some of our Y6s had a fantastic time at The Urban Factory, taking part in a gymnastics competition. The children were able to take parts in a range of gymnastic exercises before practising and performing their routines. We are extremely proud of their efforts for getting up in front of a large crowd and performing. Well done!
Y5/6 had their road safety workshop this morning. They were reminded about the designated safe places to cross the road and where they can cross if there are no safe places near by. These reminders were also partnered with the importance of the green cross code and how to stay safe when cycling.
For forest school, Year 6 drew upon some of their geographical skills to design their own map of the nature garden. We thought about scale, how we could use contour lines on our maps, as well as designing our own key and creating grid references.

Y6 had a wonderful time visiting Northumbria University today.
The children took part in an interactive English escape room, code breaking activities and had a tour of the city campus. They gathered an understanding what university life is like and what options they have when they leave comprehensive school and if they choose to go to college.
A huge thank you to Lucy (our child of achievement) and her family for representing St Oswald’s at the remembrance church service and for laying the St Oswald’s wreath at the war memorial in Hebburn yesterday! Thank you Lucy.
Y6 loved their workshop with Natwest!
