Year 4 – Climate Change! – 05.11.2021

Year 4 continued their learning about climate change yesterday. They watched a video of Greta Thunberg talking about why climate change is so important – we then made lots of interesting links between the sources and consequences of climate change. Year 4 thought that electric cars and less international travel would be really helpful to stop the ice-caps melting and the sea levels rising. They were very passionate about this as they realised higher sea levels would make it difficult to live in areas near the sea, such as South Shields and along the tidal River Tyne! The class came up with loads of great ideas about what we can do at St. Oswald’s to help stop climate change. These were written up into very informative blog posts!

Year 4 – Litter Pick! – 03.11.2021

Year 4 have had a brilliant morning with Anne from Groundwork’s, thinking about how litter contributes to climate change. Our session started off with a discussion in class about why litter picking is important and then we went out in the local area and carried out our own litter pick. We were gobsmacked with the amount of litter we collected, in such as short space of time and in a very small area too. Once back in class we tallied up our totals and then thought about the impact that we have had on the environment today. To finish our session, we talked about the little changes we can make as well as litter picking, in order to take care of our planet.

Year 4 – Statistics Day! – 23.10.2021

Year 4 worked really hard learning about statistics yesterday. The class were really keen to learn how to read data and have a go at making their own charts! Some of us even utilised our new concrete maths resources to help us solve problems 😆

Year 4 – States of Matter! – 12.10.2021

Year 4 are loving their Science topic of States of Matter. Today they have worked scientifically, looking at gases around us. They investigated why an empty bottle squashes much more easily when the lid isn’t on. Why a sponge releases bubbles in the water when it is compressed. Whether a balloon weighs more when it is blown up and what happens when we put a scent on a tissue and move it to a different place in the room. Some amazing, scientific vocabulary was used and Mrs Pennock and Mrs Wells were so impressed with the detailed explanations and reasons given. Well done Year 4!

Year 4 – Hello Yellow! – 10.10.2021

On Friday, Year 4 were learning about the connection between mental health and physical health as a part of Hello Yellow day. They did some physical exercises and some mindful activities including yoga and meditation. They then discussed how these activities affected their mood. Year 4 impressed Mrs Lord with their ability to link their emotions to the exercises they had tried.

Year 4 – Courageous Advocacy Run! – 01.07.2021

Yesterday, Year 4 completed their courageous advocacy fun run. 15 laps of the school yard were completed by each member of the class in honour of raising money for those with cancer. The class have managed to raise £230 – thank you to everyone who has donated to the page! Year 4 were particularly impressed that they each received a Greggs voucher and sticker to celebrate the end of their run!

Year 4 – Prayer Space Day – 18.06.2021

It was a fun-filled day in Year 4, last week! During Friday morning, prayer space day had us reflecting on certain areas of our ethos and values, then we made Olympic torches with Mrs Hope and of course, we’ve been in red, white and blue all day to support England!
