After lots of research and planning in preparation, Year Four had a go at making Spanish Tortillas today. We picked this dish for our focus in Food and Nutrition week to tie in with our topic theme of modern Europe. Lots of skills were needed to create this meal and Year Four demonstrated their chopping, peeling, whisking and slicing skills. Once the ingredients were prepared, we cooked our tortillas and everyone helped to stir in order to cook the food evenly. Everyone had a taste of their creation – some loved it and gave it 10/10, others were not so keen, but well done to everyone for giving it a try!

Year 4 had a fantastic Computing day on Wednesday. In preparation for Safer Internet Day, they developed their knowledge of how to search for information safely online and how to recognise which sites are more trustworthy than others. They also gained a better understanding of facts and opinions and that not all the information we read online is true! Their favourite part of the day was learning about ‘bots’, what they are, what we use them for and how they can be both beneficial and risky. To make everyone more aware of these benefits and risks, they used their knowledge to create eBooks on Purple Mash, which they hope to share with the rest of the school.

Year Four learned lots about Germany on Friday, looking at geography, history, music and German. We managed to pack lots into this day and have completed lots of tasks. To learn about historical German figures, Year Four used their orienteering skills to search for information around the school grounds and found out all about the contributions Germany has made to our world. We also had an interesting discussion about our opinions about a piece of Opera music written by Richard Wagner – Year Four had some amazing thoughts to share and used some impressive musical vocabulary! Year Four have been continuing their topic on Modern Europe this afternoon. Atlases were used to find information about European countries, capital cities and flags. Pupils learned what symbol to look for on a map to find the capital city of a country by using the map’s key. We applied these skills to a card matching task and a Kahoot! quiz where Year Four really showed off their knowledge of European flags! Well done everyone!

Year four have risen to Mrs Smith’s challenge today to design and decorate some Christmas biscuits. First, year four thought about the materials available to them and how they could use these to make a snowman. Then, they planned, made and evaluated the biscuits they made (you can see some of their comments added!). And finally, we are most excited to be eating our beautiful biscuits during our Christmas film afternoon later today! ⛄️⛄️

Year 4 had an amazing Christmas music day! They started it off by listening to a variety of popular Christmas songs and used their listening skills to find common stylistic features. Next they extended their knowledge of musical notation, learning about crotchets, quavers and minims. They even had a go at writing their own graphic scores! In the afternoon, they impressed Mrs Wells and Mrs Pennock with their fabulous compositions using Google Music Lab. Well done Year 4, a fab day had by all!

Year 4 have had an amazing virtual tour with Amazon this morning! Our tour guides took us through the whole process of how we receive our parcels, right from clicking buy on the screen to the delivery at our door. We have really developed our computer science knowledge and grown our vocabulary too. It was so interesting to see the factories in action, maybe one day one of us might choose a career in STEM just like this.

After an exciting afternoon swimming on Monday, Year 4 enjoyed continuing to learn about Spain this afternoon for Miles Away Monday. The children made mosaics inspired by the work of Spanish artist and architect Antoni Gaudi, using bright colours and creating amazing animals.Year 4 had a go at creating these mosaics both practically and digitally, and created beautiful work through both mediums! Well done Year 4.
