Yesterday, our year 3 and 4 gymnastics teams attended The Urban Factory to compete against other schools. Our year 3s finished 5th and our year 4s finished 3rd – you can probably see how much fun they had!

On Friday, Year 4 took part in Bikeability. First, we all listened to a safety talk and learned about how to stay safe on a bike. Then, once our helmets were fitted, we went outside and practiced some cycling skills. In the afternoon, we played some games where we had to leave and enter a circle to simulate traffic and we tried lifting our hands off the handlebars to high-five our classmates! Year 4 even had some diligent note takers who learned all about bike safety and bike handling from the sidelines, writing it all down so that we all remember the important things we have learned today! Well done year four!
During transition this morning, Year 4 were learning about how sound travels across distances. We made our own string telephones to test out our theories and learned that we needed the string to be tight in order for our sound vibrations to travel to our partners ear!
Year 4 had an amazing trip to the Baltic today and had a great time! We had an exciting journey on the Metro and looked at all the bridges as we walked along the Quayside to the Baltic. In our workshop, we studied the different bridges across the Tyne on the viewing deck. Year 4 children were very brave to go out onto the glass viewing deck all the way up on platform 5! Then, we had a go at drawing bridges with different time limits to challenge ourselves. When we returned to school, we spent some time drawing our favourite bridge of the day to perfect it. Well done year 4!
Year 4 had a special visitor this morning, CSO Neil Reid from Northumbria Police. He came to talk to us about Cyber Bulling and our Social Media awareness. It was a very informative and interesting session which the children all learnt a lot from. The children listened well and had lots of questions, which CSO Reid was more than happy to answer.
Year Four have had a fabulous Forest School session, incorporating lots of different curriculum subjects. They have developed their map skills be taking part in some orienteering around the school grounds. This was linked to their sound work in science and the children had to listen carefully to identify natural and artificial sounds in the environment. In pairs, the children created a sound hunt for their friends. They had to first of all use their geography skills to identify locations on a map and plot various stations for people to find. At each station, they used their computing skills to record sound clips that their class mates had to identify. Once complete, sound hunts were swapped and the fun really started. We had lots of successful pairs who were able to follow the maps carefully and we ended the session by evaluating our maps, and by giving useful feedback to each other, as to how we could improve them next time. Great job Year 4!
Today in science, Year 4 started their new topic all about sound. Through investigation they learnt that sound is made by vibrations that travel as waves to our ears. They had great fun experimenting with the guitar, drum and metal to see how sound travels through different materials. They loved watching the ripples that were made by tapping the tuning fork and then placing in the water. Great work Year 4!
Year 4 spent Friday afternoon making superhero themed bookmarks to raise money for comic relief. Pupils had a really good idea of some of the causes comic relief raises money for both within and outside the UK. There were some lovely bookmark designs too! Thank you to everyone who has donated through parent pay! 🦸🦹
Year 4 have had an amazing day learning all about Australia. We started of the morning with geography and developed our understanding of location, as well as physical and human features. Next it was Science, where we learnt all about different, native Australian animals and their habitats. This afternoon we concentrated on the arts, first by listening to some traditional aboriginal music and then we created our own aboriginal artworks, concentrating on lines, dots and control. We thoroughly enjoyed our COOL afternoon too, it was amazing having so many visitors observing our learning.
There were some amazing costumes in Year Four for World Book Day this year! Year Four read The Town Musicians of Bremen, a book linked to our topic on Modern Europe. We learned that this book is set in Germany and linked the scenery to German landscapes. Year Four identified lots of interesting themes in the story, discussing the importance of friendship, teamwork, change, strength and wisdom. We also investigated and described the characters from the story, thinking of creative ways to describe them!
