Today in Year 4, we had a visitor come into class and tell us all about Sikhism. The children asked him lots of questions and were really eager to take part. We all had a go at some meditation and traditional singing and practiced our sustained listening skills whilst listening to music from some interesting instruments. Thank you for a fantastic visit, Year 4 have learned a lot!

For World Music Day, Year 4 listened to a variety of songs from around the globe. There was great enjoyment and enthusiasm in the class as we discussed where we thought the pieces came from, as well as identifying their stylistic features too!
Year Four had such a great Jubilee Day! From collaborating with Year Four from Bede Burn in the morning, to celebrating outside in the afternoon, we had a blast. Year Four made bunting, flags and crowns in the morning, using paint, collage and pastels. In the afternoon, the whole school took part in some outdoors activities, and you can see how much Year Four enjoyed this!
Year Four had a fantastic time on their athletics trip last week. Everyone had a go and tried their best, competing in a sprint, a 400m run, a throw and a long jump. Well done Year Four, for having such a great attitude to all of these activities and for putting in loads of effort. Year Four were also very keen supporters of their peers, cheering on from the sidelines when their classmates were competing!
Year 4 have had a fabulous Queen’s Jubilee Music day! They learnt two patriotic songs – I Vow to Thee My Country and God Save the Queen. To begin, they did some sustained listening to identify the stylistic features and then they identified the context and history of the songs by studying the words and verses. Next it was time to to learn the lyrics ready for our afternoon performance in the hall. We talked about performance strategies and how we needed to sing with passion and pride. They did a brilliant job, and their performance in the hall was amazing. Well done Year 4, very proud of you all!
Year 4 have had an amazing morning during Aspirations Day. It started out with an online question and answer session with Chris Tombling, the Queen’s chef. They then finalised their questions for our visitors in the hall before going in for a twenty minute carousel. The children thoroughly enjoyed this and learnt so much about the different jobs, qualifications needed and the skills and qualities linked to each career. Back in the classroom they then worked in groups to try and match different jobs to the skills and qualities needed, as well as thinking of their own skills and qualities too.
Year Four waited patiently for their Ancient Greek bread taste test today. We tasted bread from our different cooking conditions and compared how they looked and tasted. After discussing if the bread would be appropriate for an athlete, we put it to the test! Year four competed in a running race and conducted exclusive post-race interviews with the Olympians (each other!). Interviewers asked questions about energy level and food preparedness for the race and our athletes had some great answers. Well done to all our Year Four Olympians!
Year 4 were very enthusiastic about baking their Ancient Greek bread today. After planning to our budget and selecting sustainable ingredients, Year 4 were ready to apply their kitchen skills to prepare and bake bread, using measuring, mixing and kneading. We even conducted a science experiment whilst we cooked, making bread with honey or sugar and leaving it to prove/ no prove. We are excited to sample the results of each condition in our taste test tomorrow!
Year 4 have had a fabulous morning learning all about Hungary for Miles Away Monday. Our focus was Geography where we did lots of map work, locating Hungary itself as well as it’s bordering countries. We also looked closely at the physical and human features of the country too. Before lunch, we listened to some traditional Hungarian Folk music and completed a Menti to say what we could hear and how the music made us feel. After lunch we then travelled to Spain and during our Spanish lesson we used compass points to describe the location of different cities and we also learnt how to describe the temperature during the different months. A very busy day with amazing learning. Well done Year 4!
