Year 4 have spent the morning conducting the first part of their Science topic experiment! We are looking to investigate how fluoride toothpastes reacts with egg shells, as egg shells have similar properties to teeth. We are eagerly waiting to start the next part of our investigation which involves submerging the eggs in vinegar…what this space for our results!
Year 4 spent their morning looking at teeth as part of their current Science topic. We looked at the functions and structure of teeth, the benefits of good dental health, and even looked at the pros and cons of non fluoride and fluoride toothpaste.
Year 4 have had an afternoon of weaving as part of our current Art topic, and it’s a firm favourite with lots of the children! We experimented with lots of different techniques, and evaluated which worked best and why.
Year 4 have had an AMAZING day on their first class trip of the year. In line with our current RE topic, we were lucky enough to be invited to visit a Sikh Gurdwara. We spotted the Nissan Sahib flag flying outside, we listened to traditional music, and we were shown the ‘Five K’s’ which we had learned about in class. Year 4’s favourite part of the day was visiting the Langar where we ate rice, Dahl and flatbread, followed by rice pudding! The Year 4 staff were blown away with the class, who were so well behaved and respectful on their visit 
This week, year 4 had a great afternoon exploring weaving techniques as part of our Art topic. We looked at weaving with different materials and discussed the properties of these materials too. We discussed the difference between warp and weft, and which materials would work best in our looms.
Year 4 completed a Road Safety workshop this afternoon. We learnt how to cross the road safely, the importance of having a light on our bikes whilst out riding, and we even completed some fun puzzles in our ‘Steppin Our’ booklet!
Yesterday Year 4 celebrated Roald Dahl Day and have focused on James and the Giant Peach. We have looked at retelling the story from a different perspective and up levelling our sentences, and wrote a postcard from the perspective of James. Year 4 had some amazing costumes!
We enjoyed Far Away Friday on South Africa in a Year 4! Year 4 used maps to find and locate South Africa, looked at climate zones and learned about the significance of Nelson Mandela’s life and work. In the afternoon, we created vibrant patterns inspired by South African fabrics and animals. We finished the day by listening to and discussing some South African music! Well done Year 4
Year 4 visited Jarrow Focus Library on Thursday! We listened to two stories and then had an opportunity to look around the library, choose books and read. The staff at the library were also kind enough to get out some books about our topic Ancient Greece, so we had a read of these too! 
Year 4 have really enjoyed Climate Change day! They have developed their knowledge of sustainability in general and then focused their attention on electricity consumption! Through posters, videos and their brilliant debating skills, they have shown that they understand that there are many different types of energy and that sometimes these sources are renewable and sometimes they are not. By looking at the advantages and disadvantages of them all, they were able to all make their own decisions about the energy type they believe to be best! Well done Year 4!
