Year one had a great afternoon in Forest School with Mrs ODoherty. The children made wind socks as a way of measuring the wind and learnt about observing and recording different types of weather using a Beaufront scale.
Year 1 have been learning about how animals change across the four seasons. The children enjoyed a sorting activity then described the changes frogs experience.
Year One have been consolidating their knowledge of numbers to 20, ready for their Gold task. They have used a variety of resources to order numbers, recognise and match numerals and words, work out the place value of numbers using Base 10 and also match Numicon to amounts.
Fantastic work, your teachers are super proud of you all!
Year 1 have had a brilliant Time to Talk Day, yesterday! We spent time learning new adjectives to describe London, then we practised using conjunctions to extend our sentences. Finally we practised using a power stance and a clear voice to speak in front of others. We loved seeing all of our, parents, carers and grandparents for COOL afternoon!
Coming to an Art Gallery near you! Year 1 absolutely LOVE art with Mrs Wood on a Wednesday afternoon. Today we continued our Funny faces and fabulous features topic. The children learnt the skill of sketching facial features and then created a collage using textural materials. Art lead Mrs Chalder visited year 1 and was super impressed! Well done.
On Friday, Year 1 continued with their RE unit on sacred places. Children looked at different places of worship to help them understand that there are different sacred buildings, depending on faith. We talked about each different place of worship, then children had to sort the places of worship according to which religion they belong to. Finally, we compared similarities and differences between a Christian Church and a Buddhist Temple, using a Venn diagram. As you can see, Year 1 were able to make links to prior learning around Christianity and Buddhism which was very impressive!

Year 1 have enjoyed their Friday phonics review lesson. We practised all the GPCs we have looked at this week. Our reading is coming on a treat! During this lesson children also practise their writing skills. Look at our wonderful sentences!
This afternoon, Year 1 have been learning about what to do if someone is unkind online. We discussed who might be able to help us and all wrote down who our trusted adults were. The children were so sensible about this. Great stuff Y1!
