Year 1 have enjoyed their Friday phonics review lesson. We practised all the GPCs we have looked at this week. Our reading is coming on a treat! During this lesson children also practise their writing skills. Look at our wonderful sentences!

This afternoon, Year 1 have been learning about what to do if someone is unkind online. We discussed who might be able to help us and all wrote down who our trusted adults were. The children were so sensible about this. Great stuff Y1!

On Friday, Year 1 completed their computing unit on programming a Beebot robot. Children applied all of their prior learning to design two different programs to move the robot to the same place.

First of all, we planned out our routes using directions cards the tested them using the Beebot. Lots of us had to debug our programs so there were no errors. Well done Year 1!

As Friday was World Religion Day, Year 1 learnt all about Buddhism. We found out about Buddha and some of his teachings. We had the chance to handle some Buddhist artefacts and linked them back to our learning. We found Buddhism such an interesting religion to explore!

This morning Year 1 have been practising their handwriting and presentation skills, in line with our new presentation of work policy. We practiced letters y and u and focused on our formation. Well done Y1!

Year 1 enjoyed a brilliant workshop with Rachel from Dogs Trust this morning. We learnt about asking permission from a dog and their owner before stroking them and explored a little about dog behaviour. We got the chance to practise how to approach and interact with dogs using stuffed toys – it was so much fun!

This afternoon year 1 have had so much fun in their Art topic, funny faces and fabulous features. The children have used collage to represent the human face creating some excellent artwork!

Children in year 1 have worked extremely hard this morning to develop an understanding of place value within 20. The children used base 10 resources to understand that numbers are made up tens and ones, identity numbers shown as tens and ones and make numbers as tens and ones. Maths superstars!
