Year 1 raised awareness today for Red Heart Health Day. The children and staff wore red/hearts and donated £1 to support two children in our school community
Year 1 loved their PE session this afternoon! They were all so excited to play “Dishes and Domes” and “Tadpoles” games which focused on lots of teamwork! The hall was very loud from all of the cheering!
For Worship this week, Year 1 have been looking at how we can be agents of change around cancer. The children looked at different types of Cancer and which ribbons represented these. Year 1 staff were extremely proud of how mature the children were around a very sensitive topic.
Our year 1 children LOVED Aspiration’s Day! They visited and spoke to lots of different people and chatted about their jobs – what a busy, but fantastic day!
On Friday, Year 1 presented Mr Scrafton with their letters, asking him to support their cause and become an Agent of Change himself!
In their letters, the children asked for his help to create a friendship station to be rolled out to the whole school, to support those children struggling socially. We also handed him our designs to help him. Thank you for becoming an Agent of Change Mr Scrafton!
Year 1 have had a fantastic day at The Hancock Museum learning all about animal classification – what a fab way to launch our new topic. We started off with a scavenger hunt where we had to find a number of different things around the museum. Then we learned all about the different ways that annals can be classified during our animal classification workshop. After that, Mrs Wells read a story all about the number of legs each animal has… hopefully we can get this book from the library!
This week, Year 1 and Year 2 enjoyed a joint PE lesson, continuing their orienteering, which they started last week. Children worked in mixed Y1 and Y2 teams to read a map and find various markers around the school grounds.
Mrs B, Miss Randle and Mrs Wood were so impressed with the enthusiasm and motivation of the children and their resilience when they found it tricky to locate a marker. Well done Y1 and Y2!
Yesterday, Year 1 generated ideas for their friendship station as part of our Agents of Change actions. Children linked their ideas back to their RE learning and our ethos and values by remembering Jesus’ teaching of “be a friend to the friendless”. As you can see, lots of us would like a rainbow coloured bench – we will have to see what Mr Scrafton can do!
Year 1 participated in peer assessment for the first time today. After they had completed their multiplication and division work in Maths the children then marked their friends’s book, great job everyone!
