The most AMAZING rich experience for Year 2, this week!
As part of our topic, Coastline, we visited Tynemouth RNLI Lifeboat station. We travelled to Tynemouth on the ferry and discussed the features of the coastal town as we walked to our destination.
We found out lots of facts about the different lifeboats and sat inside of one. We all said that one of our favourite parts of the day was spraying Mr Appleby with a hose whilst he was wearing an RNLI dry suit. ⛴🌊
Year 2 had a fantastic World Book Day. All of our learning was based around the story of The Hare and the Tortoise. We retold the story and created animal fact files. Then we created our own fables and performed these as groups.
Year 2 are enjoying their new topic, Plant Survival. They have been caring for the pea seeds that they planted at the winter gardens.
Last week, Year 2 enjoyed a practical Maths lesson, partnering up with Year 4 to explore fractions with them. We looked at making our own fraction walls, comparing different fractions and shading in the correct fractions on diagrams. Well done Year 2!
Y2 have combined their English and writing skills with their topic knowledge of Coastlines. Our next gold write is an adventure narrative about a sea rescue, so Y2 worked in pairs to identify the text type conventions of a narrative. They can’t wait to write their own!
Today, Year 2 visited the Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens to take part in a growing plants workshop. This links perfectly to our new science topic – Plant Survival.
We looked at the different parts of plants, their job roles and how animals can have an impact upon a plants life cycle. We spent the afternoon exploring the Museum looking for links to other areas of the curriculum.
Year 2 have ended their gymnastics unit in PE by performing their routines this week. They used a starting position, roll, balance, jump and end position. Well done superstars!
This week, we have had a lovely visit to Jarrow Focus Library. We listened to 2 stories before we explored the library. We chose our own reading book to borrow to read in class.
Year 2 were set a worship challenge from Mr Richardson to make megaphones. We used our megaphones to communicate words of positivity!
