Last week, Year 2 enjoyed a practical Maths lesson, partnering up with Year 4 to explore fractions with them. We looked at making our own fraction walls, comparing different fractions and shading in the correct fractions on diagrams. Well done Year 2!
Y2 have combined their English and writing skills with their topic knowledge of Coastlines. Our next gold write is an adventure narrative about a sea rescue, so Y2 worked in pairs to identify the text type conventions of a narrative. They can’t wait to write their own!
Today, Year 2 visited the Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens to take part in a growing plants workshop. This links perfectly to our new science topic – Plant Survival.
We looked at the different parts of plants, their job roles and how animals can have an impact upon a plants life cycle. We spent the afternoon exploring the Museum looking for links to other areas of the curriculum.
Year 2 have ended their gymnastics unit in PE by performing their routines this week. They used a starting position, roll, balance, jump and end position. Well done superstars!
This week, we have had a lovely visit to Jarrow Focus Library. We listened to 2 stories before we explored the library. We chose our own reading book to borrow to read in class.
Year 2 were set a worship challenge from Mr Richardson to make megaphones. We used our megaphones to communicate words of positivity!
Year 2 had a great afternoon, this week, during their Forest School session. Focusing on our current Coastline topic, we explored the effects of coastal erosion, and how erosion is a physical process, building on our knowledge of physical and human features.
We built our our coastline with sand, and replicated waves to see what effect this had. We also looked at coastal signs, completing a hunt around the nature garden to find the ones relating to the coast, recognising what dangers they represented. We finished the afternoon with a story from Mr Appleby around the fire!
In Science, Year 2 have been experimenting with cooking oil to test the effectiveness of our hand washing techniques. We now know why it is important to use soap and warm water to ensure our hands are clean.
During Safer Internet Day, Y2 discussed what we can and cannot share online. We discussed what information is private and ways that we can protect this information.
