Year 1 have had a wonderful day learning about Samuel Pepys, we learnt about why he is such a significant individual and what he wrote in his diary. We then looked at the features of a diary as we will be writing our own very soon. In the afternoon we learnt a song called London’s burning, we then worked in groups to perform this to our peers. We took any opportunity throughout the day for a bit of story time and we loved it!
We’ve been learning about what technology is and where we find it. We started looking for technology in our classroom and then went on a hunt in Ozzie Owls, the corridors and in the playground. We even spotted what was in the sky! We recorded our findings and wrote about what technology let’s us do and how it helps our lives.
On Monday 20th January, Year One learned about everyday materials in Science. We discussed the difference between materials and objects and used adjectives to describe a range of materials. We used the scientific terms ‘matter’ and ‘properties’. We worked on several tasks trying to find ways of categorising materials and describing properties to help our friends guess our items. We also thought about why tables aren’t made of chocolate and chairs aren’t made of jelly!
What a fantastic trip to Seven Stories! We spent time in the Elmer gallery learning all about the story of Elmer and the brilliant author David McKee. We LOVED dressing up and role playing! We then went up to the attic and were captivated by the storyteller. We then had a chance to explore the other galleries and read through some stories on our own. What a wonderful day out!
This week Year 1 have been making drums for our nature garden! Here are some photos of our building and testing process! As you can see we thoroughly enjoyed this challenge!
On Tuesday 10th December year 1 made another visit to Keelmans Way, we were lucky enough to be invited to watch their Christmas performance. It was a wonderful experience for staff and children alike. The confidence of the children performing warmed our hearts and we loved singing along to the Christmas songs. We were then given a special treat for visiting the children. Thank you for having us Keelmans Way!
On Thursday 5th December, Year 1 attended a multi-skills festival at Temple Park. This gave them the opportunity to show off their skills in activities such as throwing, jumping, running and balancing. We all had lots of fun!
