Year 5 brought together all they had learned this half term in their art topic, Line, Lights and Shadow, to create their gold artwork. We recreated black and white photographs we had taken, thinking about how we could create perspective with shading techniques we had explored.
Year 5 had a fab afternoon investigation perimeter and area yesterday. We started by drawing shapes to a given perimeter or area, before we estimated the perimeter and area of objects in our classroom, before measuring them to accurately to see how accurate our estimations were. Some of us even challenged ourselves to work out the perimeter and area of different areas of the school!
Year 5 had a jam packed day for our Time to Talk day last week! For our DT topic, Eat the Seasons, we researched and then cooked a seasonal dishes to share with our parents and carers during COOL afternoon. We spent the day with a huge focus on our oracy skills, and during the cooking stage, we became food bloggers! We recorded each stage of our preparation, ensuring we were including all of our key topic vocabulary. We then used this footage to create our own videos which we then presented in the afternoon, thinking about our physical oracy skills.
Year 5 enjoyed their spring term visit to the library today. We listened to a story from the lovely Catherine before returning our books, and picking new ones to take back to school. We borrowed some fab books linked to our spring topics too to enhance our reading corner in class!
As part of our geography learning, Year 5 have been looking at the differing climates of North and South America. We have then been looking at different types of farming, and working out where would be best based on climate, topography and soil type.
Year 5 have been looking at converting mixed numbers to improper fractions. To help us visualise this, we have been using the concrete resources to support our learning.
Year 5 have centered their English learning this week around Macbeth in preparation for our theatre visit. We looked at the famous Witches poem, looking at its meaning, before using our oracy skills to learn and then perform the poem to the class.
In science this week, Year 5 have been looking at mammalian characteristics. Thinking back to our grouping and classifying from last year, we used our skills to categorise mammals and non mammals, referring back to the characteristics we discussed.
Y5 absolutely LOVED their visit to the Theatre Royal to see the brand new musical, ‘Weird’. The production is based on Shakespeareare’s Macbeth, a play we studied all week in the lead up to seeing the show. Thank you so much to Mrs Sharrock for organising this incredible, free experience for us all! 😀
