Year 5 enjoyed their spring term visit to the library today. We listened to a story from the lovely Catherine before returning our books, and picking new ones to take back to school. We borrowed some fab books linked to our spring topics too to enhance our reading corner in class!
As part of our geography learning, Year 5 have been looking at the differing climates of North and South America. We have then been looking at different types of farming, and working out where would be best based on climate, topography and soil type.
Year 5 have been looking at converting mixed numbers to improper fractions. To help us visualise this, we have been using the concrete resources to support our learning.
Year 5 have centered their English learning this week around Macbeth in preparation for our theatre visit. We looked at the famous Witches poem, looking at its meaning, before using our oracy skills to learn and then perform the poem to the class.
In science this week, Year 5 have been looking at mammalian characteristics. Thinking back to our grouping and classifying from last year, we used our skills to categorise mammals and non mammals, referring back to the characteristics we discussed.
Y5 absolutely LOVED their visit to the Theatre Royal to see the brand new musical, ‘Weird’. The production is based on Shakespeareare’s Macbeth, a play we studied all week in the lead up to seeing the show. Thank you so much to Mrs Sharrock for organising this incredible, free experience for us all! 😀
Year 5 have continued to enjoy their tag rugby unit in PE. Last week we focused on passing, and how we could pass the ball reliably and effectively.
To help us with our tables knowledge, and our problem solving, Year 5 completed an Enrich maths problem last week, using trial and error to work out the missing numbers in equations.
Year 5 have moved onto our next maths unit of fractions. Some of us have been using the practical resources to help us find the value of equal parts to a whole.
In music, Year 5 have continued to look at reading notation. This week, we learned about the pitch of notes in relation to staff notation in order to play ‘Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star’.
