To help us with our tables knowledge, and our problem solving, Year 5 completed an Enrich maths problem last week, using trial and error to work out the missing numbers in equations.
Year 5 have moved onto our next maths unit of fractions. Some of us have been using the practical resources to help us find the value of equal parts to a whole.
In music, Year 5 have continued to look at reading notation. This week, we learned about the pitch of notes in relation to staff notation in order to play ‘Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star’.
For World Religion Day last week, Year 5 explored different world views. We created world views for different characters, before reflecting on our own world views.
As part of our art topic, Year 5 have been looking at different shading techniques. Using chalk and charcoals, we used black paper to create areas of light and shade. 
This week in Spanish, we have practiced our speaking skills! We wrote a paragraph about the things in our town, and then came to the front to read out our paragraphs in Spanish. Amazing work Year 5!
After looking into how plants reproduce, Year 5 got their gloves and trowels at the ready last week and planted some of our own in Forest School! We planted a variety of things, making careful predictions about the way in which they will grow. We are going to make observations over the spring term, observing the changes until our plants are ready to harvest!
As part of our science learning in Sow, Grow and Farm, Year 5 have been looking into plant life cycles and plant reproduction. We dissected a flower, carefully examining the inside and labelling all of the parts, and recapping what each of these parts were for.
Year 5 have carried on with music learning this week around note duration and pitch. We focused on understanding the length of a semibreve, minim, crotchet and quaver, and used the instruments to play these notes correctly.
