Year 1 continued gymnastics in PE this afternoon. We perfected dish rolls and rocking chair rolls then put all of our moves into a 3 part sequence.

Yesterday morning, Year 1 completed a practical Maths lesson using tens frames to help them to add ten to a single digit number. Children worked in pairs to show a single digit number on a ten frame, then they added a full ten frame to show ten more. Finally they were asked to record the new number they made.

In forest school yesterday afternoon year 1 discussed a hypothesis to prove or disprove in relation to the rain. We decided as a class our big question would be ‘how much has it rained overnight?”We then made some predictions before reading a rain gauge to see if we were right or wrong. We also made wind socks to see if we could measure the wind. We returned to class to record our findings and we will continue to see if we can identify any patterns.

In computing Year 1 have been programming the Beebots to move forwards and backwards. The children made predictions to where the Beebots would end up on their journey on the map. We then used our directional knowledge to programme the Beebots using 4 directions.

For Safer Internet Day, Year 1 have been thinking about how to stay safe online. To begin the afternoon, they thought about all of the things that we use the Internet for and the devices in which they can access this information from. They then looked at this year’s theme, ‘Too Good to be true ‘ and read through a variety of scenarios, to recognise which were scams and which were real. The children used their oracy skills to discuss and debate what is private and what is public and how to spot whether something is a scam online or not. Mrs Hope and Mrs Wells were blown away with the children’s contributions and attitudes to this very important subject.

In music this afternoon year 1 have been focusing on rhythm. The children looked at rhythm patterns and how to keep in time to a steady beat and how they can retain and perform their own rhythm patterns.

In RE year 1 have been discussing what did Jesus teach about forgiveness? The children discussed their own personal experiences of a time they were forgiven or showed forgiveness then they completed an activity looking at what is forgiving and not forgiving.

Year 1 have been practising their gymnastics this afternoon. We focused on different rolls and our posture to support a straight jump and landing.

Wowzers trousers! Year 1 have amazed staff with their map reading and oracy skills during Time to Talk Day. Children read the story of “Mr Men Little Miss in London” and identified the landmarks visited by the characters. Next, children explored the types of transport used to travel around the city and used a tube map and key to plot places of interest. Finally, children then used Mr Men character puppets to explain the route the characters took in the story. Thank you to our fantastic parents and carers for supporting our COOL afternoon – we could not do it without you!
