Today Year 5 looked at ‘A Farmers Life’ and at the different seasons farmers go through. They also looked at the challenges and tasks of a farmer, and finished some fantastic worksheets!

Year 5 had a great Forest School session delving deeper into our Sow, Grow and Farm topic. We started by looking at how different plants reproduce, focusing in particular on the different ways plants can reproduce on their own. We then studied potatoes, garlic, beans, ginger and celeriac to establish how they reproduced.

As part of our fieldwork/ Geography unit, Sow Grow and Farm, Year 5 collected data to rate the suitability of plots of land for an allotment within our school grounds. We discussed different locations suitability based on, water supply, soil quality, direct sunlight, accessibility, security and protection and nearby facilities. As a class, our data determined that ‘raised beds’ was the winner.

Y5/6 had their road safety workshop this morning. They were reminded about the designated safe places to cross the road and where they can cross if there are no safe places near by. These reminders were also partnered with the importance of the green cross code and how to stay safe when cycling.
Following an afternoon of hard work clearing out the beds, Y5 enjoyed roasting marshmallows as a well-deserved treat!
Y5 spent the afternoon clearing out the raised beds in preparation for spring term’s ‘Sow, Grow, Farm’ topic. Great effort, Y5!
Y5 began their Bikeability week today, starting on the yard as they tested their bikes followed by working on their cycling, signalling and breaking skills.
Y5 took part in CBBC’s live lesson for Anti-bullying Week around the theme of ‘Choose Respect’. We reflected lots on how we can choose to be respectful towards others, especially when conflict arises. Well done, Y5!
