Year 3 had a brilliant Red Nose Day on Friday. We celebrated real life superheroes and made book marks using the Cricut machine to raise funds for Comic Relief.
Year 3 brought their Food and Nutrition week to a close by baking some Royal Rameses Rolls. On the tomb of the Ancient Egyptian King Rameses III was a baking scene and this was their inspiration. The smell of freshly baked bread filled the corridor and made all the passers by very hungry!
Year 3 recently enjoyed an RE session with Hiba, Alia and Aya’s mam all about the Islamic festival of Ramadan. Using Google Meet, Hiba hosted an interactive session teaching the children about what Ramadan is, why it’s important to Muslims and the impact is has on everyday life. The children were fascinated and Hiba did well to answer the questions being fired her way. Thanks Hiba ![]()
The Year 3 embalmers are back…but this time they are making canopic jars ready to accompany their clients to the afterlife. Coffee tins and Pringle tubs have been covered in small strips of newspaper and paper mache ready to paint and decorate!
There were smiles all round when Year 3 went on their first trip in almost two years this morning! The children took part in lots of different activities from relay races to piggy in the middle and a game called treasure hunt at the Multi-Skills festival. We even got to sing happy birthday to Zach on the coach!

On Friday, Year 3 took part in a fantastic webinar hosted by the Education team at the Baltic. The children learnt all about the art of sculpture and got a live tour around their latest exhibition by the artist Huma Bhabha.
To kick off their new topic, Year 3 became trainee embalmers as they learnt all about the Ancient Egyptian ritual of mummification. No Pharaohs were harmed in the process…only tomatoes! They were cleaned, cut, squeezed, scooped and covered in salt. After 40 days they will be wrapped in linen strips and ready for their journey to the afterlife! We can’t wait to see how well they have been preserved.
Year 3 had a great time investigating the absorbency of different soils last week. They made fantastic predications and observations. Well done!
