Year 3 had a competitive afternoon yesterday, playing some much-loved games from the Conway household. I think Santa might be getting some late requests! 😊🎅🏽

Fab-u-lous festive partying by all of the children in Year 3. We had so much fun!

Year 3 made the most of the natural resources in the nature garden to investigate, predict and evaluate the pigments in natural paints. Next they used their paints to create some Stone Age inspired artwork in large scale. It was great fun!
Wanting to build on their fantastic discussions about climate change earlier in the week, Year 3 turned their attention to a piece of classical music aptly named, Earth. Hans Zimmer, a famous composer, wrote this piece of music especially for children to ‘play around with’ and that is exactly what they did. Some children composed their own music, others played their own instruments alongside the orchestra and some children used drawings to depict the story of the music. Wonderful!
Axel counters, driverless trains, remote technologies…….sounds like something from a sci-fi movie doesn’t it? These were just some of the amazing things the children of Year 3 found out about when they got to meet four STEM ambassadors who work in the transport industry. It was a fantastic session and certainly something the boys and girls would like to learn more about!
To support anti-bullying week, Year 3 have been working towards making their own animations. They have been studying different scenarios and debating the best way to deal with some really tricky situations. Their ideas have been put into a storyboard which is going to help them plan their animation. So the next step is….lights, camera …..ACTION. We cant wait to share them with you all.
Year 3 conducted a thorough investigation into the formation of shadows using different materials. Bubble wrap, grease proof paper, wood and fabrics were amongst the materials tested for their translucency. Year 3 did a great job at predicting and recording their results too!
Before half term, year 3 thought Statistics day was ‘sweet’!
Statistics day certainly gave the children in Year 3 food for thought. Who knew Cadbury eclairs were the least common sweets in a box of Heroes? The children had great fun, sorting, grouping and presenting their real life data into pictograms, tally charts and bar charts.
On Friday, we wrote letters to introduce ourselves to our pen pals at Bede Burn Primary School. We had a great discussion about what we wanted to tell them and also what we want to find out. So lots of question mark practise! Mrs Conway has even written one to the Year 3 teacher there too.
