Year 3’s art unit this term has seen the children study the work of Lowry, best known for his mill scenes and industrial landscapes. The children have created their own urban landscapes using photography and digital art programmes and they are now sketching these using a range of drawing skills. Just a few finishing touches to add when they come back after the holidays to complete the project. ✏️ 🖼
Year 3 had a great morning with Hannah from Bigfoot Arts NE using drama to look at the impact of cyber bullying.
Year 3 had a great afternoon testing the suitability of shoes for different surfaces as part of their science unit about forces. Their next job is to put their results into bar charts and analyse!
‘Let’s talk about it’ was the theme of Safer Internet Day this year and that’s exactly what Year 3 did when parents and carers came to see their learning. With their family members, they looked at tricky, online scenarios and shared say how they would respond and compare it to the advice their parents and carers would give them! We were so impressed with their mature and sensible responses. Well done Year 3!
Year 3 have had a busy afternoon measuring forces around the classroom. The children were measuring in Newtons the force needed to open a door, pull a drawer open and move the iPad trolley. They then made lots of comparisons and wrote statements about they discovered. Super work Y3

Year 3 braved the freezing temperatures to investigate soil types around the school grounds. Starting in the nature garden, they dug deep and took samples of the soil. They followed a flow diagram answering questions based on observations and were able to identify the soil as sandy, silty or clay. Fantastic work Y3!
Year 3 named their cooking day as ‘Taco Tuesday’. They were chopping, slicing, dicing, mixing, frying and roasting food and the end result was mouth watering! A roast vegetable and paprika chicken Tacos. We’re hoping Nicola puts them on the school menu 😊🙏.
Year 3 got their hearts racing in PE today. Mr Barron introduced the children to hockey and there were some fantastic skills on display. We can’t wait for next week!
Year 3 loved welcoming visitors of different ages into their class today to learn about Christmas from their perspective. Mr Appleby, Mrs O’Doherty and Mrs Craig shared what’s important to them at Christmas now and what Christmas was like for them when they were 7 and 8.
Yesterday, Year 3 had a fantastic trip bringing all of their Science learning together from this term. They got up close to real bones from different animals during their investigation. The best was comparing a human femur with that of an elephant!
