Y3 have had a busy couple days bringing their DT unit to a close. Titled ‘Making it Move’, they were thrilled when their automaton toys did just that!

Year 3 enjoyed some gardening in the sunny nature garden this morning. As part of their Science unit about plant nutrition, they planted radish seeds which they will monitor over the next 6 weeks.

Year 3 enjoyed getting to know each other better as part of a friendship session ran by the Year 6s. The children paired up with others outside of their normal friendship group and found out what they had in common. The children drew Venn diagrams in the yard to share their similarities and differences. At break time, they then shared these with their friends in other classes too. Thanks so much Year 6

Y3 have had a fantastic morning debating if God’s plan is set in stone. Supported by our debate club members Carmen, Penelope and Layla a fantastic balanced debate took place. Check out voice recordings on Seesaw.
Year 3 made the most of a sunny day to observe and track the movement of shadows. This was for a science experiment from their topic on light and shadows. However they soon realised that their prior learning of magnets and forces also came in handy when writing up their observations. Well done Y3

Year 3 had a fantastic day learning about careers in so many industries yesterday. Probably our best aspirations day yet with over 20 different careers represented in the morning from bomb disposal, marine simulators, a midwife, physiotherapist….the list goes on!
Y3 had the best time on their trip to Housesteads Roman Fort. The first challenge was keeping up with the Y3 children has they stormed up the hill. Next they received fast-track training into the Roman army. After an inspection of their living quarters and most importantly the toilets, they agreed to sign up. They’ll see you in 25 years!
Year 3 kicked off their DT unit by investigating different mechanisms today. They made their own models testing out the slider, lever and linkage mechanisms. Next they made observations, drew conclusions and then shared these in video blogs which were uploaded to seesaw.
Year 3 experienced four seasons in one day on their recent trip to Rainton Meadows. It was an action packed day with pond dipping, mini-beast identification and then a nature trail. The sun eventually came out to top off a fantastic trip!
Year 3 striking a pose for the King during our Coronation celebrations!
