Reception have had a busy week this week researching, planning and making a collar for a pet! We worked so hard using our cutting and expressive arts & design skills to create our collars. We had to think really carefully about how we would like these to attach and open! Keep your eyes peeled for the finished products next week when we can test these on Henry 
Year 1 battled the elements this morning and completed our prayer
space activities! We thoroughly enjoyed reflecting on who we are
thankful for, who we love, times when we have felt supported, lonely
and humiliated or embarrassed. As we went around the stations we
reflected on Jesus’ journey to the cross. Super work year 1 🙏👏❄️🌨
Year 1 are coming to the end of their amazing learning of The Great Fire of London. To finish this we looked at fire safety and what we should do if there is a fire. We learnt 7 rules of fire safety and had a practice of some if these such as Stop, Drop and Roll. We practiced waving our arms to catch attention and shouting Help! Fire! We even practiced staying low and crawling to the nearest exit! Year 1 have loved this topic! ✋🚒🔥🧯
Year 3 have had the best time writing code at The Word in South Shields today. Mr Robert from Openzone showed the children how to write a programme using the Lego software to control their own Lego creations. We had Alligators with snapping jaws, a sleeping giant being woken up and goalkeepers saving goals to name a few.
Today, Year 5 have been learning about friction. We discussed the effects of friction, how useful it is and the opposite reactions that occur alongside this force. To test our knowledge we have been measuring the effects of friction upon different objects across a range of surfaces. Year 5 love practical lessons!
Year Four have had a fabulous Forest School session, incorporating lots of different curriculum subjects. They have developed their map skills be taking part in some orienteering around the school grounds. This was linked to their sound work in science and the children had to listen carefully to identify natural and artificial sounds in the environment. In pairs, the children created a sound hunt for their friends. They had to first of all use their geography skills to identify locations on a map and plot various stations for people to find. At each station, they used their computing skills to record sound clips that their class mates had to identify. Once complete, sound hunts were swapped and the fun really started. We had lots of successful pairs who were able to follow the maps carefully and we ended the session by evaluating our maps, and by giving useful feedback to each other, as to how we could improve them next time. Great job Year 4!
Another fab week in Harry Potter club! This week we played a real game of Quidditch (using hockey sticks instead of broomsticks…but just as fun!!) Even Mr Barron couldn’t resist a game or…10 with us 
Year 2 had an amazing visit to the Winter Gardens to take part in a workshop all about plants linked to their science learning. Children learn about different plants and seeds as well as how plants grew. Children had to demonstrate how plants grew as well as go on a hunt around the Winter Gardens to answer questions about the plants. Staff were amazed with everyone’s behaviour and attitude toward their learning.
Forest Club had another fab session today! Look at this glorious bug hotel they created – wow! We even found some bugs and beasties to attend our hotel. Our Forest Clubbers were keen to see that they ‘checked in’ safely and were ‘paying their rates!’
