Reception have had a fun filled week around their topic of Ready Steady Grow! We have received our very own caterpillars to looks after 
. We had to put them into their own pots with some food and are now going to observe them grow and change…these will soon turn into cocoons! We will then see them transform into beautiful butterflies 
Last night, we celebrated International Women’s Day and #LetGirlsPlay by hosting a football session with our girls football team. We even tried to recreate some of the World Cup winning England women’s team goals!
Today year 4 have been learning to play music using notes on pentatonic scale. The children gained an understanding of playing notes on a glockenspiel and recognising beat and rhythm.
This week in PE, Year 2 were thinking about how to combine some basic cheerleading moves together to create their own routines. They had to count in beats of four and decide whether to stick with one move for four beats then change or to do different ones on each beat. Great discussions took place and they are definitely understanding the need for teamwork in order to perfect their dances. We can’t wait to continue next week and think about how we can improve them even further. Great job Year 2!
Even though yesterday’s weather might not have been very ‘Spring’ like, Year 2 still managed to observe signs of Spring from photographs Mrs Wells took in advance around our school grounds. Thanks to her forward planning , we used identification sheets to spot examples of plants that are starting to grow in our local area. We then went on to discuss the factors that have helped them start to grow in spring time and also what will happen to them over the coming seasons, depending on the weather.
Y6 were fab today when reading notation and focusing on the duration of different notes in relation to time signatures and bars. We composed a short piece together using notes from the C major pentatonic scale that we learned last week. Next step: compose our own ternary pieces digitally using Garage Band. Piece of cake! 😀
Some children in Year 3 and 4 joined forces to lead our whole school worship in the hall on Monday morning. They hosted a fantastic discussion about trust and in particular, what Christians believe in trusting Jesus. Clear and confident speaking and a lively finish dancing to My Lighthouse meant everyone left energised! Well done Y3/4 worshippers!
In preparation for the hockey festival Year 4 will be participating in later this month, we have had an afternoon practicing our hockey skills! As always, Year 4 fully embraced the task in hand and took their hockey practicing very seriously, with lots of goals scored!
For music this afternoon year 1 were exploring pulse and rhythm. We located our pulse and recognised this was a steady beat. We then found the pulse in music and noticed how the pulse should not get faster or slower. We used clapping to show our understanding of the pulse in songs. We then learnt about the rhythm in nursery rhymes and understood this was the pattern of long and short sounds, we sang the songs and clapped the rhythm to match. Well done year 1
