Y4 and Y5’s oracy challenge this week was to take part in a workshop led by Mrs Smith all about managing our time. Mrs Smith filled a container with rocks, gravel and water to represent all the different aspects of life we need to juggle in our lives, learning how to prioritise, plan and prepare. The workshop helped the children to reflect on their daily lives and on how they will work towards their end-of-year oracy speeches in the coming weeks. Thank you, Mrs Smith!

Year 4 have been focusing on stories in English, and have started to plan and draft our story from another culture linked to our topic of Ancient Civilisations. Before we began our plan, we looked at how we could structure our story and the features we needed to include.

Year 2 have had a brilliant time at Newcastle Castle yesterday where we continued our ‘Magnificent Monarchs’ learning in History. We were lucky enough to view a local castle and learn all about significant people within the North East!

Year 4 had a great afternoon consolidating all of their learning around their science topic. Paul, the electrician, came back in to work with us to help use our knowledge of circuits to connect our batteries and motors to make our cars go! We even used elastic bands to create resistance with our own gear boxes!

Year 4 took part in a fantastic workshop at the Discovery Museum today linked to their science topic, Electrical Circuits and Conductors. We started by looking at Joseph Swan, and his journey to creating the lightbulb. We then conducted an experiment to test different materials to see if they were conductors or insulators. We finished our session by using our circuits knowledge to make our own torches!

Year 4 looked at budgeting yesterday as part of Numeracy Day. Firstly, we talked about what a budget was, and why they are important. We looked at the difference between things we need and things we want, before trying to make our own budgets without over spending, and including all of the things we need.
Year 4 have continued with their athletics unit in PE this week, with a focus on hurdles. We looked at how we should jump over the hurdle correctly, before trying to jump over different heights. We loved finishing our PE session with Miss Marley’s weekly fitness challenge!

Year 4 have been consolidating our science and DT learning and have been working hard on making our motorised vehicles this week. After our science lesson on electric circuits, we have started to put together our frames before adding the electrical components to our chassis, ready for connecting our motors to our batteries.

Year 4 have continued with their athletics unit in PE this week. We have been looking at jumping this week, and worked on both our long jump and triple jump technique.
