What a fantastic jam packed day Year 4 have had at Low Barnes farm yesterday. Linked to our geography learning, we completed a study of the river, identifying key features and collecting data linked to this. As well as undertaking our geography fieldwork, we also had a chance to visit some of the animals on the farm, including bottle feeding the new born lambs!
The children were fantastic ambassadors for St Oswald’s, with farm staff commenting on their wonderful behaviour and engagement!
For this week’s worship challenge as a whole school our big question was ‘how can we show resilience in the face of adversity’. As part of character education day a few weeks back year 1 focused on strength in-line with our school ethos and values. To move on from this year 1 were challenged with the task of self reflection and recognising times they have been resilient and how they can be resilient moving forward.
This morning in maths year 1 have been measuring classroom objects using a non standard unit, cubes. The children explored the sentence of ‘the mass of the object is __ cubes’. Great job!
Year 2 have had an AMAZING day at Whitby consolidating their knowledge all about ‘coastlines’. We started our day at the Captain Cook Museum where we built upon our learning about the man himself and his voyages around the world. We even got to see some of his maps and letters! Then, we had a walk around Whitby this afternoon checking off the 199 steps, Whitby Abbey and the Captain Cook Memorial Statue!
Year 3 and 4, as part of their worship challenge, ran for resilience. We have been looking at how Jesus was resilient so we tried to exhibit resilience by pushing ourselves and being resilient whilst running laps of our school yard!
Today, Year 3 visited the library to change our books. We read for pleasure and listened to Catherine read us some lovely stories. We loved it so much we have already booked in our next library trip! In computing this afternoon year 1 have been focusing on grouping data. The children grouped shapes by their different properties and then used key vocabulary to compare different groups.
This afternoon, Year 3 had a visit from Father David. He kindly answered the questions that we wrote for him and answered our big question ‘Do the choices of Christians reflect what kind of world Jesus wanted?’ Father David responded, “Jesus says to love God and to love other people and my job is doing that. We worship God and help people to worship God. I help people, I am kind to people and help organisations to help the community.”
In Maths today year 1 started a new topic, mass and volume. To explore vocabulary the children experimented and predicted which classroom objects would weigh heavier and lighter using balancing scales.
Reception enjoyed being outdoors in the sunshine ☀️ They searched under logs, lifting stones and digging in the soil in search of bugs. They eventually found spiders, centipedes, ants and worms
